My life's philosophy. I have always gone for the stunning birds and the clever ones because most oaks are too afraid to approach them for fear of rejection. So all you young blokes on ABC that read this try it out because it does work..believe you me.

The 100000 doesnt sound right there is in law a rule called in duplum (excuse spelling of latin term)which determine that interest charged may not be bigger than the capital amount of the original debt, except where you obtain judgement when it reach this stage which will mean that will be the new capital amount

BIGNIC is spot on, it is called the "in duplum rule", which is a common law rule in the SA law system. The law was codified in 2005 under the National Credit Act.
I wonder, if because this debt was struck before 2005, what effect that would have had on how UCT enforced it?
I still believe that they were not legally able to accrue more interest than the original amount. Problem is if judgement was brought against this soul. If not then I fear the system has taken advantage of him.......
In that case, shame on you UCT!!!!

My kids are teenagers and obviously previously and presently advantaged athletes. We have recently formed a new athletics club in East London and we are targeting superstars form the disadvantaged community. We certainly do not want those superstars to end up like this bloke. We want to give them the best available coaching and help them to become Olympic athletes.
Was great to read the original story though. If we hang on to the past and not ry to rectify the wrongs of the past and present government, we will forever moan and gripe. Move on chaps. We are the only ones who can make a difference
