Was wondering what was going on the last few days. Suddenly all the horses in the races have run against each other in their last and all crossed the line very close together. Yesterday and the day before were horrid days to read for me as the horses were all bundled up in speed and distances and in many instances I felt 6 or 7 horses could win a race. Information like Craig's is really valuable and interesting to help understand the eb and flow of the feel and look of cards. It almost seems seasonal at times, where lesser trainers will dominate September and the big boys make a tremendous comeback in October. Or why a week is set aside for apprentices to win races. Unfortunately this information is still obscure to me. If you look at the stats of September 2011 you will see what I mean. There was a clear swing of mood on the cards and maybe this is what Craig is eluding to? Frankly, from a punting perspective Craig, I prefer lesser competitive races from a punting and money making perspective. The winners are crystal clear and often completely hidden in the odds or completely missed by the hyping of one or two others, which is what I love and my bread and butter. Why would punters want all the better horses running together, like the July, that is almost impossible to select. I made money on July day but at the other race track on the least competitive card.

Agree Blouperd...I really like some races. Been struggling to find a winner the last two days so this is welcome relief.

MR aficionado's help me out please. I believed that their is a 'cap' on MR that can be allocated if a horse only wins its first race at 3 or 4 ??? Is this correct and what is the maximum ... and I am talking a maiden plate..., not debuting in a listed race and winning.
Thanks in advance.

Maiden Plate Winners
4yo + Benchmark Net 70 (Major Centre) Net 65 (PE); Net 60 (Kimberley); Net 58 (Zimbabwe).
3yo -Benchmark Net 78 (Major Centre); Net 73 (PE) Net 60 (Kimberley) Net 58 (Zimbabwe).
The Handicapping panel has the discretion to allocate an additional adjustment of 6 rating points above the benchmark for a superior performance. Horses with 5 runs and more on a surface are exempt.

Princess Creo? And what is a superior Maiden performance? Surely this must be judged on times? It is a known fact that Trainers spend months and plenty money running last for a year after their maiden winner got allocated an MR. Trogsy on the other hand was a true deserved MR recipient and the results showed. Forget the handicapper MR on Maidens and look at times, you will be 10 times more accurate.
Take Princess Creo and relate its times to its peers...in last 3rd place
Now take Trogsy and relate its time to its peer...in last win
Let me know your findings.

Duncan Howell's comments in Winning Form
In case this helps.
Fly at em:He didn;t have the best comeback run. I have always felt that he will be better over this trip and he is drawn in pole position. I think he will go close.
Witch var: He is racing consistently well and I give him a strong each/way chance.
Solera:He is a very temperamental horse and I am hoping for improvement
