Truely a sad day, I will always remember Wally as a 'larger than life, nothing is impossible, how can I help you' kind of guy.
Heartfelt condolences to his young son Max, his family and friends and from a racing point of view, to his racing partners, also to Roy, Joan and Adrian and the rest of the Magner stable
May his soul rest in peace.

My sister in law and her two young children, lost her husband in a tragic fire on their farm.
Wally offered to name his next foal out of Shoot the Booze, Run for Ashley and the stakes earned go to the kids.
The foal died and Wally donated a tidy sum to the family but the story doesn't end there.
A few years later on the anniversary of Ashley's passing, Air Combat and his sibling won on the day.
I've been privileged to share part of a journey with one of life (and racings) finest men.
Magic Choir, Shoot the Booze, Phunyuka, Air Combat, Disco Man, Sweet Sanette, Catch Twenty Two, Cookie Monster, Damage is Done, Deci Dela, Bed of Roses, Brute Imperial and every single Lost Chord he could get his hands on
I recall a chestnut filly that won at last 5 for him and her first foal, The Brazilian named after his famous coffee shop
The racing world had lost a fine man that worked his way up from the very bottom to a suite between the Oppenheimers and Jaffees at Turfontein
God bless his soul, he will be discussing God's horses and checking his pigeon lofts today with a scotch in hand
