Apparently, they are now trying to pull people off who enter the highway without eTags, threatening a R500 fine.
Reported areas include Rivonia, Kempton Park and Benoni on ramps to the highway.

Since it’s not law that you have to have an eTag (just that you have to pay what you owe after they have proved it is your car), this is purely an intimidation tactic.
They can’t fine you, not JMPD or SAPS

If you are stuck in this situation, get the following details:
Police Vehicle Registration Number
Police Officer Name
Area of incident

Call the Justice Project on 087 809 0399 to report.
If you have Twitter, they are on @JPSAorg

Pass this on.
The more who know the greater the swell on anti eToll

i tried to pay my toll of R30.20 in cash at the etoll office in Benoni - They did not want the cash as the system is offline (they said they don't take cash!!!) - They wanted Credit Card(I refused to do that) or an EFT(which I also refused)- I wanted to pay into their account at FNB and they too would not take cash - Now what? I supposed I go to the SAPS and make a statement that I tyried to pay and they refused and then see how that lovely saga pans out in court - I cannot believe they don't WANT to be paid!!

....been a few times to an e-toll booth in a local shopping centre each time there has been smallish queue of 5-6 people that never seems to move I pass by do a bit of shopping and pass by and see no movement. Then @ 09H15 this morning.....5 African ladies all staring into computer screens each facing outward in each direction still a small queue so I leave and return an hour later and see one customer queuing in front of one of them.....I try to get the attention one of the ladies on the side of where the single customer is because I thought she(the customer) is being helped....I get told to join the queue....the lady customer is not being helped and just standing there.....after a few minutes of nothing happening.... I ask the single customer why she is standing there and nothing is happening....she tells me the system is off line and she is waiting for it to come back on.....I ask her when is the system expected to come on....she says "I don't know....ask one of them".....so I ask when do you expect system on again.....they say they don't know....I ask how long has the system been down.....and one says it has not worked this week.....FFS what are 5 people doing in a booth on those computers.... when the 1st one told me to join the queue could she not have informed me nothing is working..... I just love being f@cked around.....is this just a job creation exercise!!!!!
