Dont know if its true but I was once told that to stop a rooster from crowing one just needs to lightly place some sort of a hat just touching the top of the rooster's comb. The chicken needs space to stretch its neck to be able to crow but with the "hat" the stupid chicken thinks its touching the roof and so doesnt stretch its neck and thus doesn't crow.
