While it is true that no system can predict the winner of every race, where I have found my systems useful is that it helps create a fairly accurate betting line, and that way I see the possible overlays more clearly. On the issue of whether blinkers improve a horse, it may be a more interesting question whether a blinker strike makes the public overbet the horse, or do they ignore it, or avoid it? Does it create, ignore or take value away from the horse in question. I also think you'll get very different stats on blinker strikes with different trainers and jockeys. For hard working punters there may be some nice hidden gems there.

Fully agree!Striker usually gets this spot on!I usually look for rides he keeps and that gets blinkers...than i normally have an idea of what he might have told the trainer...Cormack another

And blinkets are not just as simple as that some horses improve with quater cups otheRs with half cups and some with full cups thhe variables are to numerous to just put a number of lenghts to it but punters must always cosider it strongly when a horse gets fitted with blinkers as a horse would have been tested at the gallops with them

quantifying it is the tricky part but also consider the reverse as well: taking off blinkers

The problem for me is that if they improve with the blinkers, then the blinkers will obviously stay on. Everyone will see what the horse has worn blinkers and improved and include in their selections. This for me isnt something you will need to take into account in your "system" Loops.

Heinrich, your point might prove to be the most valid

What about when they are fitted on horses that the trainers know they don't act in them

You reckon this happens ? (:P)

Theres 4 cases i have had this year where that happened when by judging from the way the horse races...they didnt need the blinkers....was fav in those starts...ran nowhere...won their nxt starts! The next starts the prices was better and 2 of the 4 was even at 6/1.So sometimes 'strange' things does happen.coz they odd to know better than me...shouldnt they?

not only with blinkers - I've seen trainers put a sprinter that does not want to win over ground for a few starts - When they drop it back to a sprint it remembers what to do and runs an improved race - Robbie Maroun was a master of this - I often wonder why the younger trainers don't try this anymore
