The tote has an automatic limit...it's pool less 25%

A bookmaker only has a limit per person and must manage the liability. The bookmaker is only using the dividend to calculate the odds.

The bookmaker is paying out in addition to the tote, so it helps the punter. Tote punters can only win less than they put in. With the open bet, punters can win more than they put in. It's an uh-duh concept.

Whatever the limit is, it's common sense that the fraction must be of the limit! because there is not link to the pool other than the dividend. .

Hollywood quite clearly states the rules....

Payout Limits (Tote, Exotic, SP, All On and Yankee type bets)

Payout limits apply to Win, Place, Swinger, Exacta, Trifecta, Quartet, Double, Place Accumulator, Jackpot, Pick 3, Pick 6, Soccer Special, Starting Price, All-to-Come and Yankee type bets. Payouts will be limited to the lesser of R500 000 ticket limit or R500 000/1 odds limit.

Examples:

· If Hollywood lays a Jackpot that pays R630 000 to a R1 unit and a customer (syndicate of customers or any group of people acting in conjunction with each other as may be determined by Hollywood in its sole discretion) catches it once (100%), the R500 000 ticket limit will apply – dividend paid = R500 000.

· If Hollywood lays a customer (syndicate of customers or any group of people acting in conjunction with each other as may be determined by Hollywood in its sole discretion) tickets totaling 20% of a Pick 6 that pays R700 000 to a R1 unit, the R500 000/1 odds limit will apply. Payout will be 20% of R500 000 – dividend paid = R100 000

The biggest reason punters fail to sustain profits in racing is poor planning.

Anybody who plays small percentages of p6's looking for big dividends with bookmakers gets their just rewards when the big dividend then arrives and their upside is limited.

The limits are there for all to see,so use your brain and work out what you are trying to achieve with your bet.

I re-opened my telebet accounts the moment the p6 rules changed.Anybody who is still playing their p6's with bookmakers at the current limits needs to see a shrink.

another jp on another ticket same no's same amount..

would hollywood pay me 1 million,,,,although the payout is 630 000 0n the tote...i am happy to accept the 500 000 limit...but i have 2 tickets...would hollywood pay me 2x 250 000....or 2 x 500 000

Exactly Guru

if there happened to be 100 extra winners on the tote the dividends would be poor, but if the bets are taken at the bookies your dividend will not be effected.. works both ways huh?

As per HW website;

If a number of bets containing the same selections are placed by more than one customer, and Hollywood has reason to believe that these bets originated from or were placed on behalf of the same customer, syndicate of customers or any group of people acting in conjunction with each other as may be determined by Hollywood in its sole discretion, Hollywood reserves the right to limit the total winnings payable in respect thereof to the maximum amount that a single customer may win on one day’s trading, being R500 000.00

You wouldn't be paid more than R500k,that's the bottom line.

In RG's example it's 2 tickets surely - and limits are per ticket and not per client / account (or should be anyway?)

The limit is per client. I caught quartets and Jackpots and only got paid the pool and not the number of times I played the bet. Plus the bet was played on different tickets with different structuring of the bet.
