Has anyone mentioned the Spectrums? They seem to love the sand nearly as much as the Windrush, Tiger Ridge progeny. Also have the impression that Horse Chestnuts do, but early days yet. Only useful when considering whether to include a horse with no exposed sand form. Someone earlier pointed out, that many horses are not too good on any surface and in SA we seem to only try them on the sand if we think they are no good on the turf....

The very best horses in the country could well be great Vaal Sand horses but who knows as the horse population that actually use the Vaal is very limited to those that are not showing enough on the grass

My point exactly....the Spectrums land up there because generally they are not good enough to compete in major centres on premier surfaces.....I have the greatest repect for the late Graham Beck he did wonders in improving our local breeding stock.....but bringing that sire here so late in his breeding career did us no good.....do you think that if it was such a great sire it would still be in demand at Highlands
no.....he has been moved to KZN because he is not that attactive......but the stats rate him as the 2nd best broodmare sire in the UK after Sadlers Wells.....:
