One would think that being the premier track for the biggest money-spinning meeting in the country, it would be maintained to high standards, but as it has already been said, it's all about the money nowadays.

Doing a job for half yr life does not mean you know what you doing
einstein said " the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and hoping
for a different result"
Plenty trainers like that in sa ,train yr whole life and going
nowhere slowly

Guys each one has an opinion.
Lets not make it our fight.
If the jocks felt it was unsafe then they had the option
To stand down for the meeting however the betting public and mainly the operator
Would not want to lose another meeting.
How can Craig be at fault as there were many trainers that ran there horses and I can understand the jocks not wanting to dissapoint the trainers and owners as per future rides.
Then again they race in moshy tracks in uk heavy as heavy as thd going can be.
Just think that a decision like this should have been made by the track managers together with jocks opinion. Fullstop

Lots of opinions which everyone has a right to.
At least Craig gives FACTS to support his opinion. I have not seen any reasons given exactly why certain very well off Jockeys were of the opinion that the Greyville Track was unsafe to Race on. It may be in a bad state of maintenance but does that neccassarily mean it is UNSAFE and a threat to Humans and/or Horses.
What is needed is a balanced debate with facts supplied to support the opinions given, not just because I as the Jockey/TrainerOwner/Punter say so. Fark we complain when a meeting gets cancelled and now we complain when they race. I have come to the conclusion that if some Clanners have nobody to argue with they will then argue with themselves, just my opinion.

Once again I want to say that I agree that Greyville was not right by any means but if we did not race there because it was not "right" we should not have raced at Clairwood or any other track in SA. Easy, I could find fault with any track in the world if I wanted to and walked it the morning of the meeting. If we could only race on "perfect" tracks, we would not race. Mr H, I rode work for 8-10 yrs on sand , grass. gallops and through the pens as well when working for Alistair. This was with good jockeys of those times so I do have a very good idea of what the horses feel like and go through on the different types of going which does help me to try and give a balanced opinion and that is what I am trying to do. No one else on this forum has gone to see how many horses finished way back on the 2 meetings or asked the trainers(not jockeys as they probably were not there to trot up after the races) how their horses pulled up and the difference between the 2 courses.

Craig I'm not saying that you are wrong but I am saying that if the Jockeys don't want to ride then meeting off - It's not your life or mine on the line but theirs and the horse - Why on earth would such a senior rider/s complain for no good reason? I still believe that it should be standard practice for two horse to gallop the course before every meeting(ridden by senior riders). As far as I remember, perhaps this rule has changed since, but a Jock does not get paid until he weighs out so I battle to comprehend why riders would purposely protest without good reason. I must add that I've been driving a car for almost thirty years but that does not qualify me to make a call on an F1 driver who says racetrack conditions in Monaco are too dangerous for competition to take place.

Judging by this pic it seems that well drawn front runners are going to have a distinct advantage on the new Polly Track

Give everything but up!

Last comment by me because as The Madji says, we are going in circles. All I can say is that I have given you the feedback of how trainers here say their horses pulled up from the respective courses and the stats on how many horses pulled out of the races and finished way back at each course etc. I can do no more. Once again I am saying that in no way do I say the courses are good at all. Mr H as I said I have driven(ridden) those F1's:D.
