Greg, the main problem with the defence is that it is way too unsettled and has been for much too long, years in fact. Someone mentioned about too much shifting around of the players and that Moyes has tried all these different combinations but won't stick by one. The simple truth is no manager would do that by choice. Injuries, suspensions have caused havoc and that is the problem. If it were me I would certainly let Rio go and possibly Vidic too, Rio is just too injury prone and we don't have the players any more to cover for his occasional casual brain lapses. Terrific on his day still but we can't afford for him to be in two weeks and out for three. To an extent, Vidic is the same. Have to get the likes of Jones, Evans and Smalling playing regularly and forming a partnership for the future. they will never progress to top class if they are continually messed about in terms of position and not playing week in, week out. Centre backs have to play regularly and form a solid partnership and understanding between each other. Whether any of the three will ever be top class is open to debate but imo the definitely won't be unless they get a regular opportunity and soon. Another issue from the Fergie era that Moyes has been left to resolve. Rafael has also been in-out too much and Evra has concentration issues defensively but I think with a solid, regular partnership in the middle, those two could probably still do decent jobs as the full backs.

Well I watched Chelsea v Basle this year,when they beat us and he was the best player on the pitch.

fergie screwed up. Will take Moyes another 2 seasons to get the right squad and another 2 seasons to get their respect and maybe in the 5th season they will come right, that's if Moyes lasts another season. LFC are on the up. Few more quality signings and we will definitely be contenders for the title.
