what would happen if i saw a price and took what was available when Bettingworld opened up before the rest of the bookies ?

nothing would happen because when the betting is out its for everyone ..its not my problem as a punter that the bookmaking industry hasnt got their ducks in a row ...i and many others study the card try to see where the value lies and will speculate on either the opening betting from betting world or the official betting that gets deciminated...

All the difference.

It is a simple mathematical truth that if you don't play with value you can't win. Or put another way, if you look back at your bets (per R1000 ea.) and saw that your last 10 bets happened at 15/10 (R2.50 tote), and as it happened the universal constant of the favourite winning 1/3 was working: (@ 3wins) you are Nett -2500 (you lost 7000 and won 4500, or @4wins Nett 0 (-6000 + 6000) (correct because 15/10 is 40%)

So it's a given we are in a market prices are offered across the board. If BW comes out first, and lays a bet and adjusts, and then the betting to all other bookmakers follow, it means only one player took that bet at the better price. If it happened the other way, many people "could" have the bet before a change. This is a simple eg, but over time BW acts as the canary and it's not as punter friendly as the other way around.

An interesting story is that Phill Bull, the original owner of Timeform, was a very successful punter who used his winnings to buy things like a castle ans Rolls Royces and whatnot, kept a record of every bet. He made money constantly till one day he noticed he wasn't winning. His winning streak ended at the precise moment the betting tax started.

Harry but if a bookie opens early and takes a hit at a price and shortens the horse, the rest of us don't get anywhere near that price ...

it makes all the difference as when bworld price up they the only firm who you can have the bet with so they shorten it and the new price is what the rest of sa will lay when they eventually price up

pirates some 15 year ago hendrik prinsloo decide he will be clever and price up early on pe betting. he use to stand 100k of the horse on hes prices in those day. my good friend charlie patsolos "skake baby shake!" hit him hard many many time. he also loose plenty when horse dont arrive. when prinsloo stop doing these early betting we get on some where else. for me it make no diference who put the beting up. the acountants are never bookmakers so why you think beting world do you the favour im no sure. let me ask what is the amount for a claim from these guys? 20k? 25k? a final question. how many bookies do you think in percentage have a "book" on the met? i say less than 20% we do no have book makers re we have the accountants

mike i speak with the friend who now charlie very well is the family friend. charlie is alive but he has health problem like i tell you.
