To be called Champion you need to win that Title through an Industry Vote - Unless I missed it Jackson did not win an Equus award so cannot be called "Champion" - That's the only fact we can use to establish if he is a Champion or not - If that word does not reflect in the stud book then he is a Multiple Gr 1 winner. I do have a soft spot for him but real champions rise above adversity and do win the Industry Award -

www.freemanstallions.co.za/stallions/jackson/#.Uu8WVbRqNmg

"Karis Teetan: "he proved himself the best when he beat Variety Club. You can't describe the feeling - he flies when he runs"

The best Classic Horse in SA 2012/13
Multiple Group 1 winner
Son of Horse of the Year, Dynasty:
Equus Outstanding Sire
The 1st 3yo Horse of the Year in SA to sire a 3yo Horse of the Year from his 1st crop to race"

From his Stallion page the word Champion is omitted because no matter how you spin it he is no Champion unless he does something remarkable and continues to race in KZN and wins everything before him. Good horse yes Champion no (he could still win that at stud though)

When he goes to stud , will he get any good mares .

Will he be a better stallion than say , Noordhoek Flyer , The Sheik or Royal Air Force .

Richard McMillan
Jackson, one of the most beautiful thoroughbred specimens in South African racing and a real champion on the track, is likely to have run his last race.
Trainer Brett Crawford revealed yesterday that discussions were taking place about the future of the five-year-old son of Dynasty and there was a strong possibility that he would be retired to stud.
Jackson, out of the American-bred Cozzene mare Moonlit Prairie and bred at the Highlands Farms Stud, cost R1-million as a yearling and has earned more than R2-million in stakes. His six wins include the Grade 1 Investec Cape Derby, Grade 1 Daily News 2000 and the Grade 1 Champions Cup.
In the parade ring before Saturday’s J&B Met, Jackson looked outstanding and it is a tribute to Crawford for the way he has worked with the champion through his difficulties which are undoubtedly related to his temperament. He has been treated for ulcers and was treated for post-race distress after Saturday’s event.
Yesterday Crawford said Jackson was “fine” and asked about his charge’s future, revealed that discussions were taking place about a future career as a stallion. He said he had no doubt that Jackson would be an asset to the country’s band of stallions.
Rated 118 on merit by the handicappers, there is little doubt on the ability he had shown that had Jackson not had his issues he would have become one of the real great horses in this country and we can look forward to his future as a top sire.

Variety Club ran as a two-year-old and had a far harder three-year-old campaign than Jackson (he only contested Graded races while Jackson raced in maiden , MR 88 and listed company in his first 4 starts)
