Dumb question,
Saddle slipped is often given as a reason.
What would cause a saddle to slip.
Forgive my ignorance, but this would seem to me like buckling a seat belt, and then for some reason the seat belt got unbuckled.
Not in any way trying to create controversy, rather just trying to get some understanding of why this happens, and with such frequency.
And if this does happen, what precautions are taken to minimize this.
Maybe install something like child proof locks to prevent saddles from slipping.

the shape of the girth...and some horses deliberately blow themselves up to prevent the saddle being too tight....

The saddle can slip 2 ways...either back (most common) or forward ...
To prevent it slipping back you put on a breastplate. That's the strap you see going all the way around a horses chest. Often a horses shape means a saddle doesn't sit nicely or when they jump out of the gates very quickly it causes the saddle to go back.
A saddle slipping forward can be from a horse pulling hard early and the jock then ends up sitting on the horses neck with no control at all. There is nothing you can put on to prevent this happening.
