This is what makes The Vodacom July such a great race and probably impossible for any other race in SA to get close to it in terms of popularity. Just under 3 months to go and people(posters) are already choosing there winners and giving their opinions.(tu)

Rakes Chestnut - interesting - who knows if Louis would have been going for the Triple Crown if RC had not been side-lined :S
This list could be useful when deciding on one's Charity Turf selections - at least we know that the intention at this stage is to campaign in KZN

If you have a 3 yo and you want to see what happens in the Daily News and Woolavington, you are already in for R11400 by the time they are run.The final supplementary fee is R25k. Unless you think you have nearly an even money chance or better of making the final field, then you should wait until final supps before deciding to enter rather than nominate now.
If top rated horse is 114, then a 3yo colt on the minimum 53kg needs to run to a 106 or higher. Otherwise you will run under sufferance. 3yo fillies need to be 104 or better on the day.
Any older horse with a rating of less than 107 when the final field is selected has little chance of making the cut.
About 40 of the 70 early noms would be better off waiting until the final supps rather than putting their cash in now.

The first entries have been out for nearly a week now, is there any reason no bookies have opened up an antepost market yet?

In the other July thread I tipped Futura as a possibility and I will stick with him now for July honors (tu)

I see when betting opened today he was backed from 16/1 into 12/1 and then into 7/1.
The 16/1 IMO is too short as he will have to win a big race going into the July to qualify with only 16 spots available.
