Runners today:
All three are at long prices.
Race 3: Satchmo. Ignore his last run- post race we found a dental problem that was bothering him. On his work we expect him to run into the money. Hermanus is the one to beat.
Race 4: Silken Cat. She has her quirks, but her first run on the Poly from a wide draw was encouraging. This trip should suit, and has plum draw. We are expecting an improved run and could run into the money. Stable companion Sugar Prism is the one to beat.
Race 8: Golden Dawn. Nothing went right for her in Gauteng- hates the wet, and it rained all the time. Also reported respiratory noise. Back at sea level, she appears to be much happier. Has worked ok on the Poly. Her rating is now way down, and if she runs anywhere near her best form, will be far too classy for this field. Worth including in the Jackpot and Pick 6.

The two horses ran first and second with only a length between them. On their prior runs, there was little between them on best form. The favourite has been more consistent of late and had the more experienced jockey so the logical first choice. The winner jumped from draw 1 which is a big plus on this track. It is ridiculous to accuse the stable of wrong doing or to be miffed at this result. These are 2 year olds, and you should expect variations in form as they gain in experience and maturity. Both horses ran good races and in my view the stable should be congratulated, not abused!

Every new punter should start out learning this rule - I learn't this lesson almost twenty years ago when I backed MR HAWAII to win the Nursery - Just like a litter of pups horses change quickly so beware when going for youngsters as some need a few runs to awaken their ability while others peak within two or three runs(first 800/900m races) and then go downhill after that- obviously a top horse trains on.

You would expect the trainer to know this mr hawaii so if he told you back your horse and he comes in with the stable companion you also would be unhappy.
