I'll give you a clue , the horse that won the Cape Guineas the year Horse Chestnut won the Triple Crown was trained by MDK, owned by the O's and his sire was Fort Wood........

In 1995 National Emblem won the Gauteng Guineas and the Classic while Teal won the SA Guineas at Greyville and the Daily News. Teal thereafter won the July. Dynasty and Big City Life followed in the same footsteps.

Big City Life won Investic CP Derby, KRA Guineas,Daily News and July in 2009. I think Dynasty won the same race's except he won the CP Guineas not the Derby.
Still I wouldnt argue over winning any of these races. More value placed on Triple Crown though.

Was it not Free My Heart who won the Daily News that year, beating a strongly fancied Fort Defiance??? Remember Fort Defiance running 2nd in the in the Classic and the commentator (Graeme Hawkins? "you bring him home") got carried away and said Fort Defiance will be the July winner cos Horse Chestnut was leaving the country.

Correct. Free My Heart then won the KZN Derby. Intrestingly Fort Defiance won the other one of the first leg of the triple crown that year, the Gauteng Guineas.

yeah, striker was the jock on Fort Defiance, did he not get jocked off in the July and rode a Ferraris mare instead???

I think Dynasty was beaten in the CP Guineas by De Kock/Maroun horse by Dominion Royale (forgot his name)... Either way, give me the Gr1 races anyday over a triple crown which begins with a Gr2. You can't compare previous Cape Guineas Gr1 winners to Gauteng Gr2 winners, it's a joke!

Good to see the purists still remember the true champions, the ones who shape the breed and not some fizz pop #tag wannabe regional "peoples champions "
