Tommy, I think most agree he is a good horse, we previously discussed the risk of him missing the DN 2000 and if he didn't win this race, always a risky route to take because he now has little to no chance of qualifying. Don't get me wrong, again I stress, I think he is good.

Does anyone think maybe Hatt was trying to save him MR going into the July instead of focussing on winning this race?

Shrek, my man. I respect you and your racing knowledge but please, with tears in my eyes, explain the run of Serissa in relation to the other horses in this field. Admittedly he is only 0.5kg's under sufferance on the handicap but he is nowhere near the class of any of these horses. He should now be put up to at least 100......no way this horse can ever again be competitive off that mar. The reason????? The pace of the race. Futura was way too handy because there was no pace in the race. He couldn't quicken as he needs 2000m+ to show his best.

I think they made a mistake by not going for the DN. It is all easy afterwards but he will be back, I have no doubt about that.

I doubt it-I posted after his last run that I had him rated 98,and i think that is pretty much what he reproduced today.
Over and over we find horses tend to run to their past form more often than to their reputation!

even if he does he cannot beat the top three-year-olds on that run

I agree - but can't really blame the connections - case of damned if you do (take the higher rating and hope he is good enough) or damned if you don't - go with the lower rating, win easily and get into the July - at the time they took what they thought was the right option - turns out maybe it was the wrong one - but maybe better to find out if he is ready / good enough today than in the July ?
