The 10th running of the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile held at Turffontein Racecourse today, 01 November 2014, in partnership with Racing. It’s A Rush surpassed all expectations. A strong crowd of thousands of racing fans joined the day’s famous faces and charities as they cheered Bezanova passed the winning post.
The day was filled with excitement with the course abuzz with activities as Mzansi’ top celebrities and families enjoyed an outing at the Turffontein Racecourse, which also saw the introduction of the Bourbon, Beer and Burger Festival.
Winning horse, Bezanova was paired with celebrity Mrs SA, Sarah-Kate Scott and The National Horse Trust. Sarah-Kate commented on the win saying: “What a feeling! I shed tears of joy when Bezanova won, knowing that this will make a difference to the National Horse Trust charity.”
The setup of the day saw Mzansi’s top celebrities such as Amanda Du Pont, Pearl Thusi, Kojo Baffoe and Racing. It’s A Rush brand ambassador Maps Maponyane partnering with charities and top thoroughbreds to help bring a smile to 16 local charities this festive season.
Bob Yearham, Peermont COO for Gaming commented “Peermont donates a sizeable amount annually through ongoing Corporate Social Investment and Responsibility projects, with a core focus on education, community upliftment, youth and entrepreneurial development. The Charity Mile is a unique event that aligns with our core business philosophies, bringing hospitality, gaming, and famous people together in aid of those less fortunate.”
Phumelela Gaming’s National Marketing Manager and Racing.It’s A Rush forerunner, Michael Varney also added his voice saying “Today’s event was a great success and we would like to thank all our stakeholders, media partners, celebrities and the public for their
continued support. Since the thrill never ends, from Racing. It’s A Rush; we wish to extend an invite to the public to join us again at the International Jockeys Challenge on Saturday, November 15.”
The Charity Mile race is one of the many electrifying races held at Turffontein Racecourse annually. Next on the cards at Turffontein Racecourse, is the Racing. It’s A Rush International Jockeys Challenge which will be held on Saturday, 15 November 2014 with the final leg held at Kenilworth Racecourse on 16 of November.
On the day, six top South African jockeys, captained by Champion Jockey S’manga Khumalo will battle it out with international jockeys.
