I watched my favourite dog Sail Over finish second in 1990 St Leger final at Wembley. Anybody remember him?

Great thanks Dave, that brings back fine memories.
The adrenalin rush when they say "and the hare is running" for such a big event was comparable to any top horserace I've watched especially if you have had an ante-post bet taken after about round 2!
It was a pity Sail Over didn't get the lead as the reason I admired him so much was that he was a dog that just refused to be passed despite always looking like he would be.
Evidence of that in this race is when the third dog moves up on his outside.
I read a piece about his trainer Sam Sykes and he said Sail Over made him more money than any other dog he ever trained because he always went off at prices bigger than he should have.
That was likely due to his lack of flair coupled with his courage.
He won the Gr 1 English Champions Stakes two years running in 90 and 91 but those were his only two wins at the highest level.
