If you read Roy keanes new book, the opening chapter deals with exactly the same thing. He wrote his first book which publicly states he went in to injure Haland. Once the book came out he was brought before disciplinary and asked if he pleased guilty to the charge of bringing going the game into disrepute. He had to plead guilty as the questions were is this your book and do you stand behind all the facts.
His new book points out that he did go in to hit him but not injure him. The fact that it was his book he was bound by it and had to plead guilty.
Same goes for Lafferty here.

Really don't know why they dont catch those jockeys that ride bad races and get away with it all the time.

If a bet issued the drugs 6 years ago surely the charges will be dropped ?
Another thing is it common for a trainer to keep a horse in his yard with Laminitis ? Would it not be better off on a farm or at a bats place ?
......a vet will be no longer able to practice if owning up to prescribing un-registered medication.....so Laff must take the rap....and what of the other ulcer medication still un explained....

To me Paul made a stupid mistake in leaving an old empty, used syringe in his cupboard. In those days steroids were allowed if prescribed for a reason by a Vet and registered in SA. As was said before, he would have been really stupid to have kept anything at the yard and remember, it was not picked up in a horse now. The ruling now is that steroids of any type can only be given by the NHRA vet and only under certain conditions. If anyone is now caught with steroids or using them without the NHRA Vet prescribing them then they must be warned off. I know of some people that have still asked Vets for steroids and have been turned down. It was the Natal Trainers association, with Paul as the Chairman that really pushed and got them banned. I am not sure yet where the "Omoguard" came from and when but I gather that the NHRA are following that up. Obviously both products are not registered here and that is probably the big problem. They must find where it came from.

This story makes me laugh..
He gets charged for possession of an empty tube of illegak sybstance..thats it..he has not gotten charged for doping nor anything else.. none of his horses has tested positive, etc..
He is guilty of possession..dts it. Not usage...

its amazing how people have their heads buried in the sand as far as this story goes ..this type of shit has been happening for decades whereby substances have been coming into the country and cant be detected or picked up because firstly you cannot test for everything its so damn expensive and secondly the stuff is out the system very quickly and served its purpose and when they do catch up with a banned product a new one is found..it is well known among racing circles that a certain person was even supplying some vets a few years ago so please lets stop acting all innocent and amazed..the issue here is the jockey club are not equipped to catch the crooks..can you imagine if this happened in any other sport the person would have a ban from 2 years up to life...

I cannot disagree with you. We all want level playing fields, hence the new nhra drug laws which originated from us Trainers.
All I am saying is that the empty tube's expiry date makes it older than the date of birth of 90% of Laff ' horses and it's date of manufacture older than the conception date of most of his horses.
3 or 4 years ago vets were still bringing in meds from overseas , which were not registered here. Very necessary meds, in fact. Meds that are not made here. All we gave is the neanderthal called Onderstepoort and big egos etc. Our current ahs vaccines are from the 1950's. .... 95% of all of our equine meds are imported.
And what does it cost to register a drug for import ? Look, I don't know nitrotain or what's in it or what it does, etc. All I know is that it wasn't found in a sample in any of of Laff's horses and on those grounds, I believe that it would be a bit over the top to lable Laff as dome sort of dope artist. Especially since a reasonable explanation exists and given the age of the empty tube .
And Craig, please let me correct you on the "Natal Trainers" getting the new drug rules in place. It was a National Trainers body that met at TBA that got the job done. Tony,Laff and Goodie represented your province, Manfred did the long miles and Robert Bloomburg did the legalities. Funding came from MDK primarily, before anyone else put money in.

Louisg, maybe that came over wrong. I was trying to illustrate that Paul as chairman of the Natal Trainers was pushing hard for the ban and got a unanimous vote at the AGM he chaired.

Expired or not, are the products that were found registered in South Africa and are they scheduled drugs? If they are not registered here then there is some explaining to do.
I will not judge Paul but the are laws regarding the import of scheduled drugs.

TRAINER Philip Fenton, last month convicted of possessing anabolic steroids and other banned substances, was on Saturday disqualified for three years by the Turf Club.
Fenton, the first trainer in Ireland to be convicted of possessing anabolic steroids, had already been fined €6,000 and ordered to pay €4,200 in costs at Carrick-on-Suir District Court.
He faced further punishment when arriving at the Turf Club's headquarters on Saturday with the three-man panel imposing a three-year disqualification after they decided that the issue couldn't be dealt with a financial fine such was the gravity of the offence.
Trouble started for Cheltenham Festival-winning trainer Fenton in January 2012 when officials from the Department of Agriculture discovered forbidden remedies at his yard. They found a kilogram of Nitrotain and a 20ml bottle of Ilium Stanabolic, both anabolic steroids and illegal for use on horses in Ireland.
Fenton, whose Cheltenham win came in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper with Dunguib in 2009, also enjoyed top-level success with Last Instalment and The Tullow Tank, but their owners Gigginstown House Stud and Barry Connell have removed horses from his care following the breach.
All Fenton's licenses will be suspended at midnight on November 28 and Fenton will be banned from attending any Irish race meeting from March 1 next year.
