Really Hilton how can you judge a person just because of the clothes he wears( You know how trainers, owners jocks dress at Track in the morning - They are the same people with or without a tie)? Tradition only works if people want it to - The market place has decided they don't want those traditions -
Why are more people interested in the 20/20 version of cricket than test cricket? People DON"T bother dressing up in the TRADITIONAL CONSERVATIVE TIE AND JACKET anymore because they just don't want to. If you want to wear a tie good for you but don't force others to do so because it's a Tradition -Remember when a suite and tie was the dress code for the Movie Theater and Church, and then I remember my Gran getting dress up to go to TOWN to pay BILLS! -

mr hawaai firstly i don't judge people and secondly don't compare racing to cricket or rugby or anything else as it has a culture and tradition of its own so if you want to compare then compare it to other racing countrys ..

Bob if you come racing here there are maybe 25 men to one woman(who is normally with someone) If you want to meet a woman the racecourse is not the place unless its a big day

call me a purist or a traditionalist or a doos etc but when you see people like Ormond Ferraris, james maree ,the snaith family brett Crawford dean kanemeyer alan greef and muis Roberts always dressed up on raceday it makes me realise the respect they have for the game its traditions and heritage ...for me they project the right image for the game..some jockeys as well such as antony delpech i have always seen him arrive and leave the races dressed up with nothing out of place and yes it doesn't mean much to some but it projects the correct image to many

Hiton times have changed - just take a look at how many people old(this is hard for me to understand) and young now have massive tattoos on their arms and legs, which I believe cost a fortune to procure - This was unheard of years ago -
Fashion changes but horses still run with RELATIVE predictability which should be the selling point and controlling that PREDICTABILITY needs a firm hand and fair and simple rules enforced by the NHRA

I have to agree with Pirates !
It is not only respect for horse racing with its tradition and heritage, it is also that little bit more called "Self respect".
Mr. H, In your days and in mine they were called "Tattoos", nowadays they are called "Tramp Stamps". A Very descriptive name !
If you want to dress and look like a "Doos", then your message is that you want to be treated like a "Doos".
So you will most probably be treated like a "Doos !".
This is a big difference from a Tradionalist or a "Purist", or just a plain well- brought up, well-mannered person.
This shows you wether you have respect for yourself or NOT !

Always makes me smile these discussions
Imo no-one is right or wrong. Mr H is absolutely correct in that people should wear what they want and a book should not be judged by the cover, and the times... they are moving in that direction.
That said, if you turn up in court with a torn t-shirt, surfer pants and flip flops the judge is pretty likely going to have an initial impression that you are showing the court no respect. He may still find you innocent of course but, then again... If you turned up for an interview with me at the Old Bailey dressed similarly you would not get the job before you had even opened your mouth. And this is what I believe Mr McGillivray is alluding to, he believes his position should have been shown a certain degree of respect, and it would seem, he further believes that over the years this has dwindled to the point where, in his opinion, some show scant regard for the "authority" of his position etc.

Question - You posted that your Son was not allowed into the Elevation Room because he was wearing SHORTS. Now why was he dressed like this? Did that have to do with self respect ?
He was not allowed into the Elevation Room, as he was wearing shorts. No where were we informed that shorts are not allowed. Be that as it may.
I find it strange that you would need to be informed that shorts would be allowed in the Elevation as Racing in one of the Rooms and racing on the ground have always been different

Why should a trainer bother getting the horse to look the marvellous specimen as he should be? After all, if the horse can run, he can run in whatever coat he has.
