At time it amazes me how little common sense the NHRA displays.

I do not know if this has been mentioned on here but another contributing factor is how much time the horses spend down at the start before loading...it doesn't seem to happen in other countries and really once they get there they should be checked along with the equipment and sent back..i see to many horses especially under lights getting very worked up and sweating..also they seem to walk around the parade to long before going down as well..

Agree ..........always wondered why it takes so long to "call the roll" and also why so much "nothing happening" time between races.
Racing was far better when an effort was made to reduce time between races ,but for some reason that has extended again!

My horse Latino heat caused the delay by going thru the top having been loaded at least 4min. In fact he was 1st loaded, draw 1 , 3yo according to the rules.
Now the fact. He is a perfect loader ,gets nervous inthe pens, almost claustrophobic to the point where he must get out. That's what happened.
His starting stall certificate reads nervous , because of the new procedure he has to be loaded in the correct order. That to me is plain dumb. We all saw the result.... 2 races abandoned and poor Divan Neethling broke his arm.
So where is the common sence in this.!! Never mind the HORSE and what a complete lack of horsemanship

Everyone should read that link that Chippy sent. We seem to be a mixture of all of the rules and not the strictest with going in order. I stand corrected but when I was in the UK you went in in order and if you wanted to go later then you "took a ticket" but you could only do that twice before you were not allowed to race without passing the horse on course and paying 300 pounds for the chance to jump then. Most other countries are far better than us at loading because they have these rules in place and their horses are schooled better because they know that that is how they going to be loaded and that is that. Too many horses( and I have seen it here many times) have grooms schooling them at the pens without the trainer and or assistant and they are the 1st to complain when their horse mess around! Just school your horses properly and we will have them going in like overseas. It can be done and just looks so much more professional when they walk in and stand.

craig your best post since joining abc...I find it quite hilarious when I read trainers blaming the system for their own lack of horsemanship ...if your horse has any type of issue then the last jockey I would put on is a very inexperienced apprentice..had a chat to an ex trainer a few weeks ago about this very issue and the answer I got was exactly what you said to much is left to the grooms these days and compared to back then trainers are very lazy spending way to much time playing golf...

But everyone want their horses loaded last. Even to the point of asking for favours from the starter, fudging the certificates, ...
