Re: Vaal Sand
10 years 7 months agoI gotta agree with you and that is the thing about racing on this surface, same horses will run a race over and over with same conditions and draws etc but the result will be different each time. I am not talking from my pocket as I showed a profit for a change.Chris van Buuren wrote: So the no.1 filly there gets a weight advantage, best distance, great surface for her over which she has never been out the money, conditions to suit and she doesn't raise a gallop.
As good a ride as that was by Strydom, I am sometimes dumbfounded as to explain the results.....

As I have tried to figure out the sand track and its peculiarities I am now absolutely convinced that it is the track that is inconsistent and is the main cause of form reversals.
The problem is that other than "rain affected" ,the only track description is "standard"
In reality there must be at least a dozen variations of "standard" and the problem of course, is you have to analyse the first couple of runs ,each day ,to get any idea.

Rob, I have said similar quite a few times. A possible problem could be that they do not know either pre-racing how the track will run and also only get an idea after the first couple of races. How easy it would be for them to "analyse" I have no idea but I do think there are probably some telling factors which would help them differentiate. A little communication/explanation, as with all things, though certainly wouldn't go amiss.
