Mark,a)is there strict forex laws on the island ..............ie. how difficult would it be for the bigger punters to bet off-shore?...................and b) if the tote tax is 20% what will the total take-out be...............surely it will kill tote betting (eg if our tax went to 20% the total take-out would increase to 39%........and the tote would be closed within 3 months)
Mind you ,if tote take out was 39% and Bookmakers tax 20% here in SA ,horseracing wouldn't last a year IMO.

Rob as far as i know, over seas betting is illegal but I know of plenty that have off shore accounts! Often they post on FBook how much they played on a race in SA or UK. As far as your 2nd question I have no idea. Theres 2 totes here that are co mingled and rumours are that one may be closing due to the new tax structure.

Thanks Mark.............whats the general feel for the future?
I suppose once racing starts again betting patterns will emerge and it will be a bit clearer

This 'new govt' is led by the same prime minister who was elected in 1982. He was, is and has always been anti gambling, in any form. The MTC knew what was going to happen the moment he won the last election...
