Alexis Grandam, Miss Ryder, produced Weston Paint, Weston Tutor and Winona amongst others. Those horses stayed 2000m+ .I know Winona ran in the Gold Cup and placed in the J&B Reserve Stayers. Also I think it ran 2nd on July Day in one of the distance races behind Sangaria Girl.

I agree ............if the weights come out the way I expect them and Legislate's well being is secure ,I think he will win again (in spite of the odds against a repeat)
I just hope his Jan setback was temporary and Saturdays injury merely cautionary!

Agree ,and wouldn't look past Ertijaal in good going ,unless it was for the filly (Majmu)
Will wait to see 3yr old weights though ..................I think they may be overrated in the July???!!
I will reserve judgment on the " Fillies would beat Colts" comments until the end of the season because although Majmu is awesome, and the depth of fillies looks good, the top 3 year old fillies have not taken on the top colts in a meaningful way as yet( except in the sprints I add). The Conglomerate has the right profile for a July contender having improved every run and looks distance suited. At this stage would also fancy Ertijaal , but lets hope a South African bred comes to the fore.

Correct, and being by Dynasty, there is no reason why she should not get the trip - she may even be one of those who was classy enough to win over the sprints but improves even more over ground.........but I'm just speculating............would be interesting to know the stable's plans with her, guess we will know next Friday when noms for the Woolavington are due.....
As to the race, some sweeping statements made on this thread
Remember (as Bob has said), this is a handicap, so the best horse may not necessarily win.......the best handicapped ones come race time will have the advantage.......and the challenge to trainers is to get their runners into the race still being 'under rated' by the handicapper..........horses like Wyllie Hall, Legislate and Futura have shown their class and will therefor get into the race off their 'correct' weights......but there may still be some lurkers who have not yet caught the eye; the trick from a punting point of view is to identify those and have a go ante-post

I think you found an interesting one - should be much better off at the weights with Wyllie Hall - hope it does run (but not win) in the 1900 - I had a little stabe at 50/1

I read in the Sporting Post that this years July will have 18 runners. Apparently Goldcircle has leased the land around the 2200m mark. I like Solar Star in the Greyville 1900 to win therefore one of my longshots in the July if it gets in to run a place.

I also looked at Solar Star this morning - came to the conclusion that at 98 he will be out at the weights in the July (if Futura starts) - but if he does win the 1900 his rating would improve - I still think though he will be borderline to get in the July - prefer Dynamic to SS at this stage

he could do but i wonder if 2200m is too far - they might go for the 1800m at the end of the season or the Rising Sun 1600m but who knows - I personally would aim at those two as he is best between 1400-1800m on paper
