i remember when the vaal sand track first opened.everybody loved it.Jockeys even loved the surface and was punter friendly.I can imagine the amount of horses that will have to leave jhb and go to kim. I feal for any owner who has a horse who only acts on the vaal sand

this closure is no ordinary closure at its offers horses who don't enjoy the grass track a whole new future career so in a few months quite a few horses unless they move to Kimberly will be retired ..owners and trainers are going to suffer from this and we back to square one in the harsh winter as the polytrack is a firm surface as well..

My strong suggestion is that LOW MR races are put on to replace the sand races - many of the Sand horses are might be a MR 80 on Sand but are actually a MR 60 on Grass - This will not disappear - there will always be a huge amount of lower MR horses in every population and those who were previously capable on Sand will eventually be pushed out the system far too early - There is no good reason why we can't turn the new GRASS Vaal course into an old Bloem type venue. If you don't you will lose smaller owners - Cater for the lower types and you will have full fields every week. I would even introduce Maiden Handicaps every so often to cater for those that may need help on the grass.

This closure is good business for Kimberley.

Kimberley trainers must grab this oppotunity with hand and heels.
I will not win Immediately but Definitely.

One has to ask why the Vaal sand has been so problematic, but the Flamingo Park sand seems fine?

I agree with those who say that quite a number of horses will now be retired / sold off to Kimberley trainers - big step backwards imo

Will we now have 3 grass tracks at the Vaal - or will the current 'inside' and 'outside' tracks be restored to one track - once the 'new' track is in place ?
