Dear all, latest update from the Bass website this morning - excellent news.
Mike wakes up from his coma!!
Hi guys we have skipped a day of updates but this morning certainly deserves one, as he appears to have really turned the corner in a good way.
He is awake (although unable to voice himself with the tracheotomy) but he is able to understand you as he is moving his lips and nodding to requests. He even asked the nurse for a cup of tea this morning
. His kidneys are still not functional but this might take a few weeks, and he is going in for another operation tomorrow on his leg, as well as to remove the throat piece.
The doctors are very happy with him and it looks like we should be in the clear which is just an amazing miracle as they had given him between a 3 and 5 % chance of making it through.

a few of the nicknames he has acquired during his 2 week sleep ..
Thanks once again for the incredible support and I will let you know how the operation goes tomorrow.
Regards Mark.

Hi Everyone, just a short update…
Things did not go too great today with Mikes operation, he has some complications with his leg and has to go in again on Monday and perhaps a few more times there after.
They have also left the trachea in and he is still stable but sedated.
It’s a big mountain to climb after such a serous illness and there are going to be many highs and lows along the way but we will remain positive.

Slow Progress
Mike Bass is making slow but steady progress in the Milnerton Medi Clinic ICU unit.
His vitals have maintained well over the weekend, however he is receiving dialysis treatment twice daily for water retention, and for his kidneys which have still not yet begun to function. We will only know the full effect of the kidney damage in about 4 weeks, but they do seem optimistic they could return to full function.

Well this is fantastic news
Mike Bass to make full recovery
Hi guys just a final update to tell you that Mike has really turned the corner for the better yesterday afternoon.
He has had his tracheostomy tube removed and eaten his first few meals. He is in high spirits and conversing very well with his visitors and nurses. The doctors are exceptionally happy with his progress and they are all enjoying his dry sense of humor.
He is obviously still very weak but receiving regular physio and the doctors have indicated that he will be out of ICU and into high care on Friday or Saturday.
We can safely say that he is on the full road to recovery and obviously all just so grateful with his turn around. Once again we thank you all for your amazing support, we have been telling Mike and showing him your messages and he is exceptionally humbled and appreciative.
Love Carol, Candice and Mark xxx
