Re: Mayfair Speculators have been busy at the SALES
9 years 2 months agoCrawford travelled to Melbourne to buy one horse at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for the second successive year. Twelve months ago he bought the AUS$ 560 000 sale-topper for Ridgemont Stud and this time he picked up a Fastnet Rock filly out of a full sister to Holy Roman Emperor for AUS$ 300 000 for the same operation.
De Kock, Joey Ramsden, Johan Janse van Vuuren, Candice Robinson and Derek Brugman were also in action. Ramsden will train two of the three Brugman purchased on behalf of Markus Jooste and Mrs Robinson the third. She bought two others and was also acting for Marsh Shirtliff, Bryn Ressell, James Drew and Mike Fullard.
Jooste, for whom Brugman also bought two to stay in Australia, was among the sellers as well and sold four by the 2012 Golden Horse winner Delago Deluxe who was bred in Australia and stands at the Newhaven Park Stud in New South Wales.
Brugman said: “Delago Deluxe has been very well received in Australia and his yearlings are selling fantastically well.”
Jooste, the leading owner in South Africa for each of the last eight seasons, is now part-owner of a significant number of horses with the great Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien at Ballydoyle, one of the most impressive and most successful training establishments in the world.
Jooste looks like he has come in on our filly as well as 'Best Kept Secret' looks like four 25% shares between Maine Chance, Magnier (Coolmore), Nagle, Jooste.

That's what they have bought, but what about the one's they didn't get?
Worlds Highest Priced Yearling in 2016 on Opening Day of Tattersalls October Book 1
A colt by Dubawi topped a strong opening day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and became the highest priced yearling in the world this year when selling for 2.6 million guineas. A total of 136 lots sold for a total of 31,240,000 guineas at an average of 229,706 guineas and a median of 145,000 guineas. A total of 17 lots sold for 500,000 guineas or more.
The highlight of a stellar start to Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale was the DUBAWI colt out of Group 2 Coronation Stakes winner FALLEN FOR YOU who became the highest priced yearling sold in the world this year.
Catalogued as Lot 39, the well-related colt attracted a wide range of international interest that included Australian-based Sun Internationals David OCallaghan, Qatar Bloodstocks David Redvers, South African owner Markus Jooste and local trainer Roger Varian but it was John Ferguson who won the day with a final bid of 2.6 million guineas.
That is serious money

Maybe not the right thread but I noticed that horses in the Joostes colours now SHOW ownership as Mayfair Speculators with the nominee been that Brugman chap. Any reasons given for that aspect?
OR TAX IMPLICATIONS???

Would think for Business reasons, not just tax, would imagine a google search of a name would highlight his hobby more than his business, with over 200 winners a season

What do you make of Kittens Joy ? He has been the Leading Sire on Turf for the last three season in America and currently leads the sire standings on Turf. In fact in 2013 he topped the American Sire earnings which included sires on dirt.
