So the reason for the poly was to continue racing at Greyville no?

To change the meeting to Greyville would be a logistical nightmare. Transferring the horses, rounding up the staff, security and health and safety checks of the course in the public and track areas etc etc. Take the day off and relax

And if it hadn't rained and we could have raced on it today? Then everyone would have said how stupid it was to change so early. GC cannot win.

craig if you know theres a chance of bad weather you put staff on standbye in case it has to be moved and meetings have moved before on the day in jhb and in natal..my theory is it aint the problem of staff but if it moved to poly then there would have been scratchings on a card which had already smallish fields and small fields are bad for turnover so rather scrap so you don't lose money

Natal is left with 2 turf courses at Pmb ,but can't use the turn ,a vitually unusable (2 races on a mixed card FFS)turf track at Greyville and a Polytrack that requires racing in single file............. almost!
..........................and there are still people defending Gold Circle as an operator............................is that why they were trying to get a 15 year safety net from the gambling board..................... to try and develop some business acumen?
The 2 racing operators remind me of my childhood ..................in those days it was Boswells and Wilkes trying to present the best clowns.

It would have been curtains for GC had it not been for their flagship

I have always loved my racing in GC country for many years. Fantastic passionate horse people but now days I find myself having to question just about every decision being made and having to bite my lip continuously.
The problem is not with small run of the mill decisions but the BIG ones. The poly should never ever have been built at Greyville. IT has been done, now what now ? How are they going to make this work ? The program, so as to make racing fair for everyone has still not been amended in over a year. Excuses, excuses, excuses and then a half hearted effort to appease the moaning lip biters. I can hear a huge sye of relief going up as the rain falls,we have another genuine excuse come true. Not one turf track fit for wet conditions. Sad, cause I believe it has been raining this time of the year since pa fell off the bus. Still no resolve.
Where to from here ? I dont know, I really have no idea, but suffice to say days of sitting around and waiting for an answer have long gone and personal decisions have to be made.
