Very sad but racing is becoming an elitist sport and a good move to get out imo

When I started racing in the late 60's it was much much more elitist than now...............................you couldn't own unless you past the "means" test, and practically that meant being a shareholder of a successful company( ie you had to be bloody rich!!!)
no more than 3 shareholders in a horse(and each shareholder had to be the holder of individual colours) .................nobody with a criminal record of any type could have colours.
At the course, nobody got above ground floor unless you were a member of the turf club!
Credit control issues seem to be a real problem in the industry now, and have arisen since they lowered the bar!

9 years 8 months agounfortunately they have gone from one extreme to another and the culture of non payment has crippled many businesses within the industry..if everyone had to pay up what they owe as of today plenty businesses would be closed down...rob faux wrote:Craig Pienaar wrote: Very sad but racing is becoming an elitist sport and a good move to get out imo

Cant believe he would just pack in, very sad.
Plenty of cash but tired of the deals and having to put in every month is what I'm hearing

If true? Sad and a loss for racing, sure we had a horse at sometime with stable. Very pleasant man and a well run stable.
Whatever Dom chooses to do I am sure it will be a success.

Dominic is one of the good guys. When he 1st started he gave myself and Rene' many rides and winning chances, for that i thank him.
He also trained 1 little horse for myself and my bestie and again Dom was the perfect oke.
He will be missed, certainly by me but i venture to say he will be missed by plenty because Dominic is a super guy.

Listening to Dominic Zaki, you can hear that giving up is not his first choice.
The fact that a successful trainer feels the need to turn it up is concerning but I guess it is no secret, to anybody sensible, that the industry needs a makeover to survive.
I believe that they should be using his situation as a model of pro's and cons ie.what would need to change ,not in vague clichés ,but in detailed steps ,and use the results as a starter template to try and fix this great pastime/sport/industry.
Racing needs a start to finish analysis of issues and this seems to be a perfect opportunity to assess those of a trainer and to some extent, those of owners!

This guy has over 100 horses and can't make ends meet?Guess that he either has bad owners or has had a few good things get rolled whilst being heavily involved. There is no other explanation imvho. How do battlers with 20 and less horses survive?
