If this is about handicapping I would throw in my 2 cents worth
The problem starts that horses are handicapped after 3 runs or less if the happen to win
Good horses ie 5% go on to improve to beyond MR 90 The rest if the receive 80 plus for winning as a 2yo come back to a lower rating
Additionally ever now and again a horse runs way above his rating {or appears to} andnever repeats that form Horses that go ground may be different
My opinion only
I also have a personal experience
When I was at school I could run a bit Very good over 440 yards
Got a new coach and improved and won continually at interschools
The coach asked me to pacemake of the schools best miler The idea was to run 880 and drop out Set the pace the felt good so carried on Result broke school record {no smashed}
Never won the mile again!! Think my MR was 130
