i'm not sure how it works in south africa but in aus- if one corporate bookie goes off on a runner, they all go off. typically a large bet from the connections of the horse in question, betfair also responds similarly as well

Bendon,I am in SA and your assessment is correct IMO ......... Since Betfair has been blocked to SA punters it has blocked the mug money but the remaining activity is more accurate than ever (albeit in lesser amounts).I put this down to the elimination of sentimental bets.
On the other hand, Interbet support includes these bets from connections like owners, friends etc and over time is less accurate in my experience!
The problem is that the Betfair pointers are late so do not assist with exotics but have been valuable with "saving " bets!

It is , of course necessary to remember that significant pointers are relatively rare .......not every race, or even a lot of races, has "graft" (if that's the right word)
Yesterday for instance, there was a race where a horse was being supported in SA , but the amount being offered on Betfair,at a triple stretch , was 30 x the amount of anything else in the field .......my experience of exchange pointers suggested it would run poorly .....it did!
Similarly, earlier in the week there was a horse which my ratings suggested was much shorter than the form dictated ........every lay was gobbled up and it indicated somebody knew something........sure enough the horse overcame poor form and a shocking draw and came home lonely........there was not nearly as much VISIBLE support in local markets -that is the kind of activity that every now and again makes exchange activity very useful to make note of!
