Of the older horses, I think I lies between French Navy and Solid Speed - I don't believe St Tropez can turn it around with SS and he is under sufferance, so not for me. Of the 3yr olds, with the scratching of Rabada (which makes the whole Legal Eagle issue even more difficult to understand) I believe it lies between the Snaith trio - so those 5 for me and the most confident prediction I can come with is that Solid Speed will be in the first 3....

Previously I went on form, the possibility of the horse improving and weight allocated. I also always looked at good horses running on late in the build up to the July. The tight Greyville track has now made me adjust my thinking a little. You need a jockey that has the ability to overcome poor draws and to use good draws. There is no better example than Marcus. Then to add to the mix this year, their is a lot of politics surrounding the scratching of Legal Eagle and Deo Juvente. I cannot comprehend that the Jooste's would sabotage their chances of winning the July. Their best exponent in my opinion is St. Tropez. On paper, I agree ST should not run ahead of SS but I do expect marked improvement.

Whatever the outcome, I would l love to be privy to the arguments / reasoning in the Jooste camp which led to them having their 'main' runner (seemingly) being under sufferance by as much as 3.5 kgs - while if Legal Eagle remained in the race, he would have had many others under sufferance

Could not agree more Frodo,
I can't see how the handling of Legal Eagle or Rabada has been in their best interests.

My opinion is that St Tropez will definitely finish in front of Solid Speed. The weight doesn't mean much to me, it was ST's first run after a while and there'll be plenty more improvement to come. He's a quality horse and he'd be my first choice from the older horses.

I have been wrong before (once or twice) but I can't see St Tropez in the first 4
lol frodo not saying he'll be in the top 4. just that from the older horses, I would go with him. I think SS peaked in the 1900.

Marineresco draw badly, a real disapointment about that draw,
but won the winter classic with consummate ease.
need some luck in running.
Van Niekerk came close to winning fews years ago and will want to go one better
with this champion in the making
