Alec Laird's Chepardo ran a 'shocker' by his standards in his run on the 26/05.

This horse had impeccable form having won 4 in a row and was then just touched off in his 5th start.

He was priced up at 6/10 early. Now,bookmakers prices are not always reflective of winning probability, but this horse drifted off the boards, starting with an SP of 2/1.

He raced handy, and comfortably at that, until about the 500m mark. When the jock asks him to go he is sitting in 3rd,but is almost instantaneously passed by everything except the horse that runs last.

# Horse Jockey Trainer Eq. Wt Dr FP OP SP Len. Time MR
4 Netflix G Wrogemann M N Houdalakis A 55.5 6 1 9-2 3-1 0 101.78 82
6 Seven Single * C Ngcobo -2.5 kg M F De Kock A 53 1 2 9-2 5-2 0.50 101.87 77
5 Hyaku S Khumalo S G Tarry ABt 54 3 3 7-1 10-1 1.00 101.96 74
7 Tom Fool F Herholdt S Moffatt AB 52.5 5 4 12-1 16-1 1.40 102.04 71
2 Mercado D L Habib S G Tarry ABt 59.5 2 5 16-1 16-1 2.00 102.15 85
1 Chepardo Fav * C Murray A G Laird 60 7 6 6-10 2-1 3.10 102.35 86
3 Leeuloop Jet * D Neethling -2.5 kg S Moffatt AB 58.5 4 7 25-1 16-1 4.50 102.61 83
8 Baylisiana Scr * M Mjoka -4 kg S G Tarry A 52 1 8 0.00 0 74

Irrespective of whether the bookmakers got the betting right or not in terms of their initial markup, the drift in the betting of this horse was alarming to say the least. If I remember correctly the last traded price on Interbet was 28/10.This for a horse with impeccable form who was originally 6/10.

This is a horse the NHRA should be looking more closely at imo.

I can't say this was 'gotten to',but the betting market indicated something smelly from the moment race time arrived.

The problem is I don't think our 'policemen' even recognize this sort of thing, how many of them really understand the betting markets at all?

I see that the stipes requested a vet examination of Chepardo, and he was reported not striding out left front. That is a possible explanation for his run.

However, the betting says somebody knew something before the race was run.

I am pleased that there is finally an acknowledgement that, where there is big money with no (or minimal) consequences ,there will be people working to get some ,by fair or foul means!
When I have suggested that policing needs to be far more draconian I have been accused of being a conspiracy theorist or bearing grudges -I rest my case!
I was also accused of being racist when, whereas many were pointing fingers at jocks or trainers in respect of poor performance,I suggested that the financial circumstances of the grooms/staff provided the necessary motive ,and that there was obviously opportunity!

It is also interesting to note the outcry of indignation(correctly) that a trainer may have given a horse a performance enhancing drug, and yet results are being manipulated daily by use of a MR handicapping system ,that has no checks and balances and has no regulation of the "running on merit" or "consistency" rule!

Racing insiders hate sharing bad news stories, thumbs up to Goosen

Maybe that's one of the reasons that tge Nhra don't bother investigating strange betting patterns etc as racing people just shrug this " nonsense " off as punters speaking from the pocket

Easy, did you go into the stables on the left or right of the road as mostly the same 6/8 guys are on most of the time at that gate and we can have a chat to them about who they let in etc.

That's exactly right.

It's the main reason I never bothered posting what I had noted in Natal previously.

I think LG should be commended for his efforts , particularly against a system that seems to be failing miserably. Hats off to Louis and just wish that more people of his caliber were
running Horse Racing.

One thing, I know for sure, those short sighted , self enriching folk that daily fcuk horse racing up will have their comeuppance.
