Bookmakers - what are you looking for

our tote takes up to 25% of every bet placed on horse racing,which may vary,but in essence on all exotic bets its around the 25%mark without taking any risks.they cant lose they just take.

bookmakers get taxed 6% on horseracing, but they run the risk of losing if punters hit them hard.lol.(very rarely happens)sports betting with bookies is tax free as far as i know.

the tote funds racing, with their 25%takeout,so in essence punters fund all racing and the operators salaries by punting with the tote.

I know of a SA bookie who has been in the game for over 50 years and has now converted his business into a numbers/soccer betting establishment. He said that nobody was interested in horses anymore. He now employs 30 cashiers to handle the bets on numbers etc!!!! Rather sad but I suppose but that's life...........us old addicts are a bit like the Dinosaurs.. :lol:

The question is......has horseracing lost its popularity worldwide or just in SA....if so then the next ? is if only in SA....WHY.....
