Can you imagine what the grass would have looked like being so soft and wet and with the tractor dragging the pens on and off it between races. An absolute mess. Impossible to let that happen.
Sorry Craig ,but your "Gold Circles fault " quote,in relation to the cricket, is exactly why You guys get no respect ..............its stupid and the act of a "Dummy spitting" tantrum of perceived victims rather than a sensible logical response!
It would seem that it is clearly to deflect from answering the sensible question of "If the weather forecast indicated that racing was in danger on the turf ,and presumably you knew you had done the scarification and plugs!!!!!!!"... then why was a timeous decision not made to race on the Poly?
If I am correct its because of the tractor.
This from ESPN Cricket.
Doc: "This bickering is absurd! Of course we all want cricket, but surely the health and safety of players must be considered too? What would Kiwi fans say if Williamson tore a knee ligament chasing a ball to third man and was out for 9 months?! Where would fingers then be pointed? South African weather has been crazy for months. We have just gone through the worst drought in recorded history. This was followed by highly unseasonal rainfall in Durban - more than 300mm in the last week of July, which resulted in serious flooding and even loss of life, and then a further 60mm in the last couple of days. Durban is a summer rainfall area! The relaying of the outfield and the timing thereof was unfortunate, but has to be done. Maybe we should rather be venting our anger at these absurdly short test series. Surely 3 tests must be a minimum!"
Ernest: "To those of us that are lambasting the authorities for organizing this match in Durban this time of the year should bare in mind that all these delays were caused by the downpours that occurred on one particular day of the match (Saturday), most of which wasn't even during game time (20:00-06:00) and for the rest of the five days the weather was actually alright. If anyone should be blamed here it is those that decided to relay the outfield of the ground 2 months before it is scheduled to host a test match - even though they knew a long time ago about this test match. Considering the few nations that are able to host tests during this time and the packed schedule from Sep-April - which is SA's traditional period for hosting cricket games, I applaud the thinking. Its just a pity that their thinking was let down by an oversight from a third party."

This is exactly why I always get asked why I bother to even post on here. OTA, it doesn't matter when or if they decided to move to the poly, the grass would still have been too soft to have tractors all over it. As you can see from the ESPN post we are not supposed to have the rain we had lately. RF the GC fault for the cricket being delayed was tongue in cheek as you should pick up from the emoji. They get blamed for everything else so it was just a chirp and if read with 2 eyes open it would gave been seen as that.

So the Poly is not really "all weather"due to the proximity of the turf track and its pull up area, and meetings are still being abandoned due to bad planning (a vital aspect of management )
I am surprised that "tongue in cheek funnies" are appropriate when discussing abandoned racing, when many dont need to be inevitable!

RF, you have finally shown me that I must be stupid to even bother to try and help here. You do not want to see the truth that the tractors and the pens could not be pulled onto the grass after all that rain and the track being under spring treatment. As the ESPN article says we have had completely unseasonal weather this year. I hope you wrote to the cricket union and asked them why they had redone the grass? Actually you do not want to see the truth as it would spoil your blinkered approach to GC in particular. Well done, you have just chased away the final person in racing from ABC. I will not even bother to log on anymore. I am tired of telling the truth and being made out to be someone who does not know it in the first place. Play nicely boys. Sorry Bob.

So you're leaving cos I won't accept the truth ???
If I read my post and yours we both seem to agree that the problem with the Poly ,is the proximity of the turf track!!!!!correct me if I am wrong! ......But it is my fault the truth is a lame excuse for bad planning and management.
Let's also be honest about why you have so bravely remained posting on ABC .....you are clearly the officially appointed defender of all the unfortunate circumstances that Gold Circle has got itself into since the decision to sell Clairwood, and defending the indefensible has eventually got you down!
You keep leaving and your "bosses" keep sending you back!!!!

I do not want to get into the lipstick and handbags side of this argument however I must agree with one segment of Rob's logic. That is the abysmal management skills, and lack of planning on Gold Circles part. What is the use of having an all weather track if you cannot service it during spells of wet weather? That defeats the object of having put one in in the first place!

Made sure all the scenarios were covered to ensure that an all weather track be functional in all weather outside of tropical cyclones. To lose meetings because a track cannot be serviced speaks clearly of no contingency planning.
contingency plan
noun
a plan designed to take account of a possible future event or circumstance.
