Having been to these meetings the stands are never full so I doubt it will make much difference... I love the concept as a purist but most punters don't care a dot ...

Let's be honest .. if the guys were such crowd-pullers why give a meeting to PE on a Friday? The course can't be filled on a Friday and I doubt punters will skip work to watch at home..

Maybe so Mr H, but if the cream of the crop went then i am sure the interest would be 10 fold. Imagine the likes of Joe Moira, Ryan Moore, Emma Jayne Wilson, Soumillon, Victor Espinoza, John Velaquez, Javier Catellino, Kent Dersormoaux etc rding there. Wow.

The cream of the crop in Gauteng and a few nice raiders (horses)run at the much publicized Summer Cup and the course is never full ...not close to big meetings in the 80's and 90's... times have changed unfortunately

In the 70's, 80's and 90's Jockey's were household names... you will be hard pressed to find any normal members of the public that can name you more than 2 or 3 riders now if that... it's tragic but true.

how well do i remember the meetings at Kenilworth and Milnerton on a Saturday. You had to go early to get your pa/jackpot/pick 6 on as the ques were long. My old man used to leave from Kenilworth to Milnerton at 11 (half hours drive) in order just to get a nice parking. Same at Kenilworth 100s of cars on a Saturday on course then the over spill on all the side roads around the track. The noise of the crowd as they came down the straight on the old track was unreal. At least 30 standing bookies and all taking bets constantly leading up to the race. Bookies runners everywhere, the beer flowing, the sun shining, proper jockeys in those days, trainers who gave you real info and owners.

Another example that will show you the difference ... I watch lots of british, aussie and NZ tv... the backdrop in pubs etc is often a TV screen showing racing... I don't know one pub in my area that shows Teletrack.... there used to be a few but nothing now (I know Dave's pub shows)

No..its the ambiance that the director's put in drama's to show typical British, Aus, or NZ pubs.... a slice of realism if you will. An Sa pub would be showing Rugby or Soccer or cricket whether live or not... my local is probably showing weekend EPL match replays, not live PE racing. Let's say there is still a culture of Horse Racing in those countries... we don't have one anymore or the courses would be full on big days

at least 20 meetings on a Saturday in Australia from early morning (10am) on the east coast taking in NZ racing right through until 9 at night when the west coast meetings end. So the interest is there and the papers are full of racing and the totes are clean and well run
