What is amazing is how brittle most relationships are in racing-even the mutually beneficial ones.
Zechner riding 4 horses tmorrow ...not one for the Shams!
It was a good team while it lasted.

DORRIE SHAM:
Race 2 – CARAMITO (13): I would have preferred the debut run to be over 1000m but she will be very green – a very nice filly but will need the experience.

DUNCAN MCKENZIE:
Race 2 – WATERBABY (18): Is scratched.

this may sound like a very stupid question to those who know far more than i will ever know about horses but how can you tell if a horse is going to run green prior to it actually running in a race. Serious question.

CnC from my knowledge of greenness is that the horse is not fully fit (wound up) for the race. This is when the trainer wants to stay in the good books of the owner.

Nevertheless the horse is not "ready to race" as it is been put "through the paces" and the trainer feels that the horse will be "distracted" etc.

CnC, its the trainers way of saying the horse needs more time and is not ready to run, but will run just to confuse you, at the same time gathering more experience, to confuse you even more next time it runs green. Now Im confused, sorry bud I tried.
