Some interesting thoughts Magic.
How about some races carded on the basis of purchase price and/or auction bought at?
That way if you have a Horse that cost say under 60k, it can run against others that cost around the same amount. And thereby (at least in Theory - lol!), run against the same level of Horse.
However, going forward imo something more creative needs to be done, to encourage ownership, and increase the potential return on investment.

What about owner/bred eg Oppenheimer,Beck and many others, leased, private sales, etc etc? No the price a person decides to pay can have no bearing, neither can the 'method' a horse is sold have a bearing.
Also Jim, there is no need to encourage ownership in SA, it's not a problem. Certainly in CT, there is hardly a stable open and waiting lists exist. I strugged to get my horse in recently. And the next struggle will be to get into a race. Def no problem there!

Agree with you on 2yo what about 3yo maidens. At the end of this season (31July)
there will be plenty 4yo maidens, example there was 60 nominated, max of 16 can run therefore the rest get eliminated and renominated.
Is it because we lost 22 meetings with the night racing
Well I suppose we are all off to Kimberley.
On a lighter side Jim our boy got his starting stall cert.

Jack, I wasn't advocating for races based on $cost - I was just thinking out of the box as 'handicaps' seemed to have their own problems, and some type of 'other way' might be worth pursuing. And that was the 'first idea' that sprang to mind - I think most will agree that something needs to be done to improve the current situation.
Agreed Mac, the whole situation has a knock on effect, so indeed there are probably a load of older maidens that can't get a race either!
As you say the 22 meetings lost hasn't helped and hopefully come October all issues have been resolved and said meetings can start.
As for our 'Boy' - fantastic, hopefully with flying colours and no hesitation?!?
Really looking forward to see him gallop - ouzo Brian!
cya in 2 weekends mate, Jim.
