Racing can't even afford to pay the NHRA so wasting money on sponsorship would be senseless - When your business is in trouble because you are wasting money on parties etc but are losing stipes, vets, and core members of infrastructure then it is best to consolidate and get your core business running properly which is staging race meetings not sponsoring non-racing events. Actually as crazy as it seems that person than ran the SABC into the ground (Hlaudi) had one principle which Racing should have adopted years ago - 90% of Teletrack and Phumelela/GC Marketing should be spent on promoting local Racing and not the guess bets that they force down addicted punters throats on a daily basis. Raing needs to stop all the "Thinking out of the box " marketing and go back to basics

so, to get back to the thread topic, where's the logic in a stud farm for instance, sponsoring a jockey to get their logo noticed and name mentioned on Tellytrack (and then having fights about it)? In a box, talking to the same people in the same, shrinking, box. What is the ROI of effort in this? Is the goal not to get more people interested in racing? ie people out theeeere ie public? So that we can have more followers, more fans, more punters, more owners?

...it also depends on what else is expected off the jockeys....riding work on their horses...professional advise/guidance....

No I disagree - look at MJ and how he promotes Oratario - The stallion gets into the breeders and buyers minds - Now if the stud for example sponsored Usain Bolt do you think suddenly millions of non racing folk would be looking for a stallion cover? Phumelela and GC should be the ones marketing LOCAL racing to the public through mainstream advertising - Stud Farms and bookmakers seem to be the major Jockey and Stable sponsors and they are doing the correct thing by promoting their product to their potential customers.

Don, you are right, it is very selective, limited marketing but when you see the name over and over and the the Oratorio's start winning then the various owners watching do start thinking of buying one. All you need is 3 such people at an auction to drive a price to 900k and job done. Pay the jockey 10k a month, pretty cheap advertising considering that 60 seconds during Carte Blanche is 60k.......
Mr H you 100% correct

Sorry Bob cannot agree, the jock is being paid by someone else, do your sponsorship work in your own time....

Some of these sponsors do it for racing tips, I kid you not.
I was approached a while ago to sponsor a jock...deal ran along the lines of you pay me 5k per month or x amount a winner ,and in return i'll tip you x amount of winners...
Trust me , I'm glad I refused because the guy that took the offer finished off losing his business.

Stars are supposed to be goldmine to sponsors, so wearing some branding in the interview should suffice. If you have to mention the sponsors, your probably not a big enough name to be sponsored
Sponsors are very important to racing and charities and in those cases there is nothing wrong with branding and mentions ( imo)
