My 2 cents worth. GC needs to get a consultant that looks after the soccer pitch from an English club to give them advice on what to do with the turf. I don't think any1 local would help or Moses manhida pitch would look great

Would an English turf guy know the climate? Was an Enlgish or Irish guy that laid the Poly

I show he would do extensive research before giving advice

Tongue in cheek comment ?

If not rock hard ground in middle of winter. Temperature on the day could be 10 degrees to 20 degrees. How many raiders were there during the Spring and Summer Season in Gauteng ? Many more negatives.

Then Fairview it is.

Not as silly as it seems .... I'm not a regular follower of PE racing, but from what I could see on the TV last Saturday, the track looked impeccable - so wide my dear  And PE is a holiday city with nice climate for most of the year (well the wind could be a nuisance, but no more than Durban?) so should not be an issue to get people to attend

Don't think Gold Circus would agree though

Maybe I should just keep quiet but anyway. GC got all the top managers from all around the country to come and see if a solution could be found. Also sent soil analysis samples everywhere. This was done 2 or more years ago. There were many different opinions and none have worked perfectly. The hardest thing is producing a perfect track in the middle of winter with no growth and 7 different types of grasses now mixed in and on top of that the new boxes and tote board leave certain sections of the course with 1-2 hours of sun a day! The managers have had years of experience with grass tracks. Most worked at Summerveld before going to Greyville and produced beautiful grass here to gallop on. Greyville at the moment is a completely different beast. Years ago they were spraying it with green food colouring before races etc so it is not a problem that has just started. Maybe it should all be ripped up, drainage perfected and brand new grass of one type put down or whatever the experts think is right. I will leave it to them as like most people on here I don't know enough to dictate to them. I would probably know more about coaching the Springboks! B) :cheer:

Craig with the utmost respect bud, we are dealing with professional people that are being paid accordingly and all we hear are excuses. Enough !! Good guys don't cut it anymore, like in every other industry if you don't produce results you are replaced, that goes for management as well.

I knew I should have kept quiet! Neigh, Ralph when he was there knew and knows what he is doing. He hasn't forgotten how to care for and produce a grass track. It is like saying that Patrick Lunn is not a good trainer anymore because he doesn't have a Model Man or Northern Princess or Alistair Gordon has forgotten how to train as he doest have a Scarlet lady, Extra Cover, Brer Rabbit or Mauritzfontein now. That is rubbish. They just have not got the horses with that ability. GC has thrown huge money at trying to fix it. As I said they brought in the best from around the country and not just managers. Lecturer's etc on soil and grass management have given their opinions and things have been tried but have not worked perfectly so hard to single out the managers. That's why I said maybe GC will have to bite the bullet and redo the whole course.
