Trevor Reid: Trainer Dean Kannemeyer is always one to follow in KwaZulu-Natal and he can pick up three winners at Scottsville on Wednesday.
June 7, 2017
First Crusade should get the ball rolling in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1000m. This Crusade gelding showed nice promise on debut when runner-up behind Captain And Master recently. The penny seemed to drop in the closing stages of that race and he could be a bit smarter this time.
Jockey Anthony Delpech retains the ride.
There are quite a few nicely bred first-timers in Race 2 but the Swinger 8 Kateecador and 13 Shindeagen could be worth a bet.
Kateecador has been runner-up in both starts over this course and distance while Shindeagen showed good improvement in her second start and is drawn nicely on the paint.
Kannemeyer’s charge, the filly Arran Isles has proven to be a disappointment in that she has yet to break out of the maiden ranks but she could finish in the money in Race 4. She may, however, have to settle for minor honours behind runners like Fashion Quest and Khetiwe.
The Irish-bred filly Damaraland will represent the Kannemeyer-Delpech team in Race 5 and this Cape Cross filly must be watched on her debut. The form horse and one to beat in the race is Uprise.
One Man Show probably needed his comeback run last time out and is likely to do a lot better In Race 7, a MR 72 Handicap over 2400m.
This Tiger Ridge three-year-old is course and distance suited but will need his rider Delpech to overcome a wide draw as he runs his best races when up with the pace.
The Slade (another Kannemeyer runner) in Race 8, a MR 86 Handicap over 1700m returns from a break in which he was gelded and may prove a bit better than his rivals.
The Slade was unsuccessful in his two cracks at a feature race and will enjoy this weaker company.
The best bet of the day is in the last race where River Garden is ready to shed his maiden tag.
This Windrush gelding was narrowly beaten in both his starts to date but will be better suited to this 1600m and jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe will do the job of getting him home first

Race 7 - Newtons Spark was a big place price (9 to 1) earlier. This would be optimum cd so hopeful more than anything.
