greetings bob
i did attend. firstly, hats off to the track & ball team, excellent evening with a great panel discussion, complimentary braai, race cards and prizes.
my apology in advance if an of the information i state is incorrect.
summary
1. Marinaresco – 60 kg
big weight to carry, top 6 candidate, tough ask to win
2. French Navy
always thereabouts, sean tarry have his charges fit and ready but not a winning proposition
3. Master Sabina – 57.5 kg
dual summer cup winner coming in with fair weight, have to be ion with a shout
4. Brazuca – 56.5 kg
gavin up is a positive but tough ask
5. Krambambuli - 56 kg
no chance
6. The Conglomerate – 56 kg
crawford mentioned that marcus considered this one. marcus had no intention to ride edict after an unconvincing gallop before the investec. frankie took the ride and won. he reconsidered the mount and after the dailynews win he slowly by surely won marcus over. sheldon thought the conglomerate had a massive chance.
7. Saratoga Dancer – 56 kg
panel thought ten gun was stable elect. gallop was not convincing. has a outside chance after good effort last year although last run was below par
8. It’s My Turn - 55.5 kg
in with a big chance especially with striker up. no pace in race, strydom will have in striking position even with bad draw
9. Ten Gun Salute - 55.5 kg
impressive bw1900 win. not sure the form will stand. impressive gallop though and will run a good race
10. Nightingale – 55 kg
entire panel was of the opinion this fillie will struggle. delpech up a positive. he made a commitment to tarry to ride al sahem as this fillie was to run in the garden province. all changed after the tibochina and he had to ride her as he is contracted to the slacks but if he had the choice would be on al saham according to deez
11. Black Arthur – 54.5 kg
most talked about horse. panel dont think its worth being 3rd/4th fav after struggling to get in. snaith fill have him ready and the gallop was super impressive but they were unconvinced
12. Edict of Nantes – 54 kgs
crawford gave the thumps up. 3 yr olds are very well in. his horses prep and well being have gone 110%. seemed quite bullish
13. Al Sahem – 53.5 kg
crawford said tarry had this one at his peak in the dailynews and could not get the better of edict. definitely a top 3 selection but will not beat his one. the panel felt his draw of 1 may work against him and he may end of further than expected turning for home
14. Mr Winsome – 53.5 kg
kannemeyer has him fit and well. just showed well being in gallops. tough ask, outside place chance
15. Elusive Silva – 53 kg
scr
16. Pagoda – 53 kg
on derby run behind al sahem has to have a shout, needs to improve a few lenghts to be in the shake up
17. Tilbury Fort – 53 kg
no one fancied him
18. Safe Harbour 52 kg
long tough season. great filly but may be hard for her. outside chance. she looked much better in gallop compared to al sahem
extra info:
deez : during an outing with the guys playing golf. de kock was present, he felt nightingale had a huge chance
crawford: al mariachi best of his other horses
sheldon: fancied crawfords runner in the last strongly, nebula
deez: bela bela best bet ( empty your pockets on it he said)
hope this helps, all the best clanners
