Also have NO DOUBT that SA bookmakers will evoke this same law-rule if you use others to "get on" for you and you slap them for huge....

This is a free bet slanted the bookies way, so if the bet lost she could have claimed :oh by the way it/the bet was for some one else ,please can I have my money back. Being the scrupulous people they are(bookies) I'm sure they would have called her to refund the bet
.Why did they(bookies) not refuse the bet, because they thought they could take a quick mug bet and make 25 big ones. Of course she as a student didn't have the money or means to take such a bet but they took the bet knowing the chances of it arriving were slim, you take it you pay it

I still believe the new CPA with be called into action re gambling bets very soon, perhaps the Kenilworth debacle might be a good test case. Thus far the oudbudsman of the CPA has favoured consumers on many occasions despite companies trying to hide behind the old T&C's bullshit

Hi Fexlix - although I dont like what happened to Megan I do think your comment "Being the scrupulous people they are (bookies)" needs more clarity.

Agree with Felix, you took the bet you must pay. She either took it online or in a shop. Online her age is there so it should flag and if they worried then don't take the bet. If she walked in their are cameras etc which will prove someone saw her and layed the bet.
Bookmakers shouldn't hide behind the small print. It's frustrating when they won't lay you what you want but this is their defense. They should be made to use it.

In 2013 I had an account with Bet365 and I won R7000, when I tried to withdraw I was told I'm from USA and I had to do a lot of things to prove I'm not from USA. WTF is that, they've always been dodgy.

Hi Mac
They the bookies (Bet 365) are now taking the high ground by being scrupulous(principled, ethical, upstanding etc.) by not paying out the bet due to their terms and conditions. Had the bet not arrived would Bet 365 have contacted Meagan to refund the bet that they taken in error?
