This has devastated me. Rob and I became friends because of this forum and had many telephonic debates about the racing industry. Many a morning was cheered up after a call to or from Rob. I learnt to enjoy his sarcasm and loved his insight into racing both the punting and political side. Rob took over a program that analysed races and we would often debate the hot horses on the meeting. I backed a lot more winners because of him. When he got ill a few months ago it left a hole in my day. The first call I received following his release after months in hospital was akin to receiving a call from a long lost dear friend. The new Rob was definitely a changed Rob. He knew that he had been given another chance and his priority was now to ensure his son was looked after if he died. Somehow he knew he didnt have long.
