7 years 9 months agoYes I'm aware of that. Surely they think he has a strong chance by running him in this field.Rowdy wrote:You do realise Mutawaary is a maiden taking on winners, the Manitoba formline hasn't produced a maiden winner yet.seshen69 wrote: Quick glimpse in the 2nd and Mutawaary in the 3rd. Quick glimpse started 7-10 if I'm not mistaken on debut. Time to get my money back. Mutawaary.... At the weights.... 2nd run after gelding... Nice last run... Big runner in my opinion. Took the double at 19-1.

Another card made up of 2 Maidens and 6 Handicaps - also as mentioned by pirates in another thread, impossible to know which horses have had an 'easy' after AHS injections - so probably safe to treat those returning from breaks with suspicion ....
R1: First timer The Rocketman said to 'need the run' - so I think this leaves the way open for Mooney, who showed good improvement in a strongish looking maiden last time; Hard Ball the main danger - has had a few chances and may prefer shorter, but tries blinkers and has a good draw
R2: Last of the maidens where the favorite Quick Glimpse made a fair debut, but imo is much too short at odds-on; Sofii's Miesque also made a fair debut and although probably needing more ground, provides better value imo; Distant Call hard to judge - comes off a break, but with Gavin riding, a better run is probably expected
R3: Rebel's Champ one of those who may be needing a run - if not, should prove hard to beat imo; I think the main danger is the filly All Over the World, who came back to form in her last run after some dismal runs - earlier ran well off a 79 and has now come down to 73; Vulcan could be interesting - best form over 1400 at the Vaal, but tries blinkers today (and according to Computaform has won 5 of 34 starts with blinkers); Hot August faces stronger imo but can place; the others can not be totally ignored - so either take a chance with RC or go wide
R4: Claret Cup goes for 3 in a row, but could find it tough to catch Queen of War giving away 9 kgs - these 2 stand out imo
R5: Trappy little handicap; Pillaroftheearth narrow first choice, but apart from his maiden win in a weak field, has often been found wanting when challenged late; so runners like Secret Harbour (big weight), Moshav and Mission Control could run him down late again; any of the others can also upset at best
R6: Low level fillies and mares handicap; narrow first choice for me is Celtic Lady, who is steadily coming down in the ratings and looks well in here; Aimee Sweet seems to run for Zackey and could be the main danger from the Erasmus runners Varsity Princess and Burgundy Rose; Danish Cross has her first local run, and could prove the surprise package
R7: Cascapedia won her debut convincingly, but now takes on 3yr olds giving them 4.5kgs, so price a bit skinny imo; not a lot between American Indian and Defy Gravity on their runs behind Silver God, while both Man at War and Edisson come of fair last runs, so not to be ignored
R8: Both form runners, Lebanese Tractor and Onamission come off breaks, so both vulnerable imo; one roughie to seriously consider imo is Three Kingdoms - like Cascepedia, she beat Knysna Rose in the maidens, but runs of a 55  also ran a fair race behind Guns and Roses and her last start after a break was encouraging
Enjoy

Not the best ride on Mooney - would never have beaten the winner though

Honestly some of these trainers with their first timer comments are taking the piss or they just don't know anything about the horses they are training.Look how that horse won and the trainer doesn't know how good it is?Money came for it from 20-1 out to 44-1(probably after the comment)and then into 30-1.
