R2: Hampton Court very hard to beat on exposed form - the first timers would have to be above average to beat him, but King of Pop and Hero's Honour could easily run 2nd and 3rd ...

R3: Summer Sun if fit and well should be right there; Wings of Charne scope for improvement and could challenge with Magical Charm; the others need improvement imo

R4: Loyal Lieutenant can't be opposed on form; the opposition appear very moderate, but if LL somehow falls over, it should lie between Soldat, Mister Lister and London Fog; Caribbean Empire represents a stable in form , tries blinkers after a break, but really needs major improvement to even place

R5: Trappy fillies and mares handicap; just take the field

R6: Also competitive, but Cal's Crush has plenty of scope and should be good enough if fit and ready; if not, any of the others can take advantage

R7: Riding Shotgun on the up and should take a lot of beating imo; Torre del Oro probably the main danger but for me needs 1400; Elvis and myself have Airtaxi running, and while we are hopeful (stable seems confident of a 'good run'), I personally think he needs 1400 - but we live in hope

R8: Very tough fillies and mares handicap to close, and as per the betting not much splitting the top 6 and anyone can come out on top with some luck in running

Enjoy B)

A rather pleasing run from your runner there, no doubt.

.....the adverse action I am trying to illustrate is when a horse is up in their toes but do not place one foot before the other like a sharp trot.....but instead have two feet together and skip or hop.....but any how the phrase "on it's toes" is not supposed to indicate a negative trait.....then why would locally bred Western Winter filly and G1 winner along with seven other female equine athletes in UK USA Canada NZ AND Ozz been named On Her Toes....I doubt that breeders were predicting a hyperactive no-hoper when doing so.... ;)....There are also 2 male thoroughbreds that were named On His Toes and not because they were predicted to be hypoactive either...all a matter of interpretation and not negative connotation....

it is probable that the phrase has two meanings, one to be alert and the other to be less settled

When that phrase is used to describe a horse in the parade ring it is normally a negative at least as far as i know and restricting that to SA

Maybe we should try substituting horses with human athletes ,5 mins before a sprint

the one calm and relaxed and the other on his toes for the last five minutes

if its a close contest the one would have used valuable energy before the race and will count against him

....I doubt it....as long as I have been around horses some 50 odd years the phrase on its toes indicated a positive demeanor of alertness, perky and keen to get on....heard Nadine Rapson, Candice Bass Grant Knowles all use phrase positively....yet some of our lesser exposed presenters have used the same phrase to describe skittish, nervous and hyper active behavior....

Thanks, he ran better than I expected (and made a fool of me for thinking he would be outpaced); imo just got tired the last little bit and just held on for 2nd B)

i can agree with most of what you say regarding a possible misuse of the phrase

but coming back to the behavior of the horse in question to me it was a negative with a very high possibility of it not placing

that is my experience after years of looking at them parading

In my opinion, when a horse is " on her toes " in the parade ring, it is normally a sign that the horse is happy, relaxed and ready to rock ' n roll..... & normally a good run is expected.

I am always happy if MY horse is on her toes, prior to the race & does not tear down to the start.

That's just me & the way i view this term.
