Greyville Poly Sunday 8/10

7 years 8 months ago
#693264
Friday night racing was smashing, the food in the Durban View Room was excellent and the company was great. Got talking to Muis Roberts and Anita Akal and re-lived some great moments in racing over the years.

It would be rude not to go again on Sunday. So...

Any ideas for a P6 banker (or a winner in general)?

Race 1: Scrabble is expected to crack it's maiden, however Storm Racer is on a peak effort and could upset those ambitions - while Vittorio has already shown up above average at the mile, might be needing this run but could also be dangerous coming back the 200m. I don't find the odds spread conducive to trying to split the three of them. Supa Mufti should run a good race, and if any of the reserves got a run, they too could have a say.

Race 2: On The Bounce has been perfectly placed to crack it's maiden - but almost looks less impressive beyond 1200m. While Stunning Seed is on a peak effort, is welll suited to the polytrack and should like the extra distance. Again the odds are not conducive to trying to split them - and not attractive enough to go against On The Bounce with Stunning Seed - especially as we have Got Your Back also in contention - chance at improving off last three runs as well.

Race 3: Not much has come of the BSA-F form, making Alraune a little suspect here -could be ready to win - or in need of this run. Looking at the very strong London Secret formline - perhaps she might be a bit moore effective at a shorter trip. Lady Val then also becomes a contender, albeit not a strong one on run behind Billy Silver - but was 5 lengths back and has to contend with the surface switch - has scope for improvement having gone straight into novice plate on debut. Sweat Treat also comes in to the reckoning - just a little off the median on debut sprint. Has been rested for 77 days, and could benefit from that. Not sure that Lady Val is an 8/10 chance though as her form is pretty much level with Alraune.

Race 4: World Dreamer looks the one to beat here - The Reformation could pop up a surprise. Since it's quite a weak race, an upset of some sort is possible.

Race 5: Georgina seems to be moving in the right direction now since running a flat curve for a few races, and this third run after the rest should produce a peak effort.

Race 6: Doing it for Dan is in the right place on his form curve, Mr Roy could find a place if he can hold some of the condition he showed LTO. Rodney is well suited to the C&D, and should benefit from the rest. Two horse race between Doing It For Dan and Rodney - If Rodney is even slightly in need of the run - Doing It For Dan can capitalize on that - since he's in superb form - but has to deal with a hefty weight.

Race 7: Yankeedoodledandy was the winner at the 1200m mark LTO, and should make amends here. Out My Way and Risky Rosco should apply the Pressure.

Race 8: As to be expected from the last - it's wide open. Any one of these could win it. If forced to make a selection I woould choose Spanish Captain, but Roy's Magic a big danger if able to hold form from last race.

Race 1: SCRABBLE
Race 2: ON THE BOUNCE
Race 3: LADY VAL
Race 4: WORLD DREAMER
Race 5: GEORGINA
Race 6: RODNEY
Race 7: YANKEEDOODLEDANDY
Race 8: SPANISH CAPTAIN

Any of the above selections winning, should be considered by luck only - since it's quite competitive racing today

R6, don't leave Monte Christo out of your play.

R1, one of the top three in the betting will win this, here's how i gauge their chances. Storm Racer, the form behind Draugluin may be questionable, 5th placed finish less the 0.5 off the winner. Admittedly was running on strongly, and the good thing is he has cracked a draw this time round and that may enhance his chances, but not for me.

Scrabble, replace Marcus, what price then? Draugluin has run to both Scrabble and Storm Racer, and i think Storm Racer put up a better finishing effort than Scrabble. If Scrabble is the right one in the race, he will go off in the red, but i cannot find the justification to price him up at 15/10 for starters, the bookies may known something we don't. Not for me.

Vittorio had valid excuses last time out. The addition of blinkers could make all the difference today, coupled with a decent enough draw. All things being equal, he could turn for home a lot closer today and be in with a shout.
