Now what I would do is give a free trip for 2 to the Island to any punter picking the winning rider(leave some freeloaders behind and it costs nothing extra) - a losing ticket and newspaper/Citizen entry but you must be on course to win the trip - run it for a month before the race and run the race on a Saturday

If I remember it did start off on those lines as Citizen is also a sponsor , but things change when you realize that you get the same reward and an increase in salary to do less.
The biggest problem in Horse Racing at the moment, ask some of the CPT sponsors that have left the seen as to why they do not want to sponsor days.

don't worry about that - they would first have to be told that there is horse racing in South Africa before they even think of finding a forum

Sporting Post Front Page - Times are Changing
There are few destinations on earth that match the Cape in summer. Beautiful beaches,
magnificent mountains, the allure of the winelands - and eight weeks of top drawer horseracing
make it a heaven on earth for anybody who has ever loved racing - and having a good time.
The Livin' Is
Kenilworth Racing are sitting on a veritable goldmine
in the shadow of the mountain at our most
scenic racetrack.
But the marketing and branding of South Africa’s
unquestionably greatest season of horseracing has
hardly done justice to the quality of horse that will
grace the Kenilworth track during December and
January to compete in seven of South Africa’s greatest
Gr1 races, culminating in the R5 million Sun Met
on 27 January.
Maybe the attitude is - these stars market themselves
and let’s leave it to the sponsors?
With the distraction of the Summer Cup up North,
what has happened to the local season hype? What
is the season called? We are South Africa’s leading
racing media publication and up to a few weeks ago,
we didn’t know when it officially started - and haven’t
seen any branding.
A visit to the Racing It’s A Rush website, despite the
spelling errors and incorrect race names, suggests that
the season officially launched last Saturday with the Selangor
Stakes (sic) and the Lanzerac Ready To Run race.
While the Cape limps through eight difficult months
every year, that includes the distraction of the
South African Champion Season in KZN, winter and
drought at home, and the bizarre unresolved apathy
of threadbare fields, the newly revitalised Highlands
- Ridgemont Cape Winter Series was a mid-year high-
The fact that one of the sponsor’s own products galloped
into the history books was a fairytale bonus – the kind that
tends to happen to good people.
Like so many feature race success stories it was heavily
sponsor driven – and therein seems to lie the key.
Next Saturday sees the running of the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas,
the Gr2 Green Point Stakes and the Gr2 Cape Merchants.
Three great races!
Top Cape breeders Avontuur, who owned the Fillies Guineas
branding for years, turned the event into an elegant social
occasion with all the bells and whistles demanded of a class
event – right down to the quality wine gifts for all the day’s
winners and glamorously attired Tellytrack on-course presenters.
This sort of class hospitality inevitably requires a woman’s
touch and Pippa Mickleburgh and her team mastered it.
L’Ormarins have taken the raceday experience to the next
level with their second LQP Racing Festival kicking off on Friday
5 January. The event has grown into a leading racing and
social occasion internationally – even said to be threatening
to unseat the Met in status.
It has already reached the mainstream media, their website
is active and informative (a lesson for the Rush crowd) and
tickets are on sale at Computicket. They have also launched a
writers competition to boost interest – with a terrific prize for
two to Glorious Goodwood.
Like Avontuur and like Highlands, the LQP team have maintained
a steady stream of information flowing to the media. It’s
informative and keeps the event in the public eye. Simple really.
