DRAKENSTEIN OFFER AN OUTSTANDING DRAFT AT 2018 NYS!

Drakenstein Stud have enjoyed a magnificent season in 2017-2018 thus far.
According to statistics publishing in Sporting Post, horses bred by Drakenstein have earned an impressive R10 542 550 (at the time of writing) this season.

Heading the list is brilliant 3yo filly Oh Susanna, the devastating winner of both the G1 Sun Met and G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes, and a potential contender for the title of Horse Of The Year.

Other notable performers represented the stud this season include impressive feature race winners Raven Girl, Merysagos and Speedpoint.

Drakenstein have an exceptional draft of 23 yearlings (nine offered as agent) on offer at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

The draft includes yearlings by South African standouts such as Captain Al, Dynasty, Silvano, Trippi, Var and Drakenstein’s own What A Winter, as well as Newsells Park’s very exciting Galileo horse Nathaniel.
The latter, winner of both the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and G1 Coral-Eclipse, made a devastating start to his stud career with his first crop producing 2017 Cartier Horse Of The Year Enable and four other stakes winners.
Nathaniel’s only lot on the 2018 National Sale is Rain In England (Lot 171) –a grey colt whose winning dam is a half-sister to South African champion Dancer’s Daughter.

Drakenstein’s champion sire Trippi has four lots in the draft. They include an own brother to Winter Derby hero Liquid Mercury (Lot 37), a full-brother to G1 Golden Horseshoe hero Afrikaburn (Lot 91), a colt out of G1 SA Oaks winner Ash Cloud (Lot 95), and a colt whose four time winning dam is a sister to Horse Of The Year Irish Flame (Lot 174).

Another star sire standing at Drakenstein is four time G1 winner and current Leading Second Crop Sire What A Winter. The latter is sire of Winters Calling (Lot 117), a half-brother to the useful Cardinal Call, out of the smart, stakes placed winner of three Clarion Call.

Cartier Champion, and Drakenstein Stud resident, Duke Of Marmalade has seven smart yearlings in the draft. The proven classic sire’s lots include a colt out of a winning half-sister to Trippi sired G1 winner Deo Juvente (Lot 81), a filly out of a stakes placed Smarty Jones daughter of champion Circle Of Life (Lot 160), a half-brother to Cape Guineas second White River (Lot 175), and a colt out of a G3 daughter of Australian champion sire/broodmare sire Encosta De Lago (Lot 419).

Duke Of Marmalade also has a colt out of G3 winner Milden Magic (Lot 203), a colt out of Kahal’s millionaire daughter Mannequin (Lot 479), and a half-brother to eight time stakes winner Silver Bluff (Lot451), who hails from an outstanding family.

Deceased champion sire Captain Al has a very smart colt on his hands in the form of Captain Zee (Lot 75). This colt is a full-brother to Irridescence Stakes winner Red Disa and G1 Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Tick Tock (dam of promising 2yo William The Silent).

Reigning champion sire Silvano is the sire of a colt out of Jet Master sired stakes winner Star Jet (Lot 47), while European champion Twice Over has a filly whose granddam won the Listed Ladies Mile and hails from the same family as European champion Indian Skimmer (Lot319).

Outstanding sire Dynasty is the sire of Oscar Wilde (Lot 189)-a half brother to 3 winners and out of the Western Winter sired Equus Champion and multiple G1 winner Lady Windermere.

In-form sire Visionaire has a smashing half-brother to Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes winner Miss Katalin in the form of Magic Vision. This bay colt is out of the Jet Master sired G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Little Miss Magic and hails from the wonderful Miss Lindeman family.

Other intriguing lots in this draft is the Twice Over colt bred on the same cross as Drakenstein Stud bred G1 winner Sand And Sea (Lot 487), the Gimmethegreenlight filly whose dam is a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Thunder Dance (Lot 56), and the Seventh Rock colt out of G3 performer Mary Stuart (Lot 481).

GARY PLAYER OFFERS EIGHT AT NATIONAL SALE

The Gary Player Stud Farm, loyal supporters of the National Sale, will be offering a high-class draft of eight at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. The draft contains a mix of proven and promising sires-suggesting there is something for every buyer in the Gary Player draft this year!

Outstanding sire Dynasty has a very well-bred daughter in the form of Lucky Shamrock (Lot 385). She is out of a winning own sister to stakes winner T. Rex and half-sister to champion sprinter Hinterland, from the same family as champion and multiple champion sire Foveros. Lucky Shamrock is also a sister in blood to the talented Dynasty sired stakes winner Francia.

Four time G1 winner and hugely promising sire Twice Over has two in the draft. The first is a half-sister (Lot 9) to three winners, including six time stakes winner Cante Libre. This is the same family as once beaten English champion Brigadier Gerard, one of the greatest racehorses in history.

Twice Over also has another well bred filly in the form of Lot 30. She is a half-sister to four winners including G3 winning millionaire Masai Warrior, and her dam is a Jallad half-sister to Colorado King Stakes winning millionaire Natural Selection.

World class sire, and Travers Stakes winner, Flower Alley is the sire of colt (Lot 164) whose winning Jet Master sired dam is a half-sister to G2 winning two-year-old Winterinthewoods, while former G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf second Noble Tune has a filly (Lot 263) out of a stakes placed daughter of champion sire Captain Al and Wolf Power’s speedy G3 winner Lupine Lady.

In-form sire Mambo In Seattle, whose runners this season include the very smart 3yo Majestic Mambo, is the sire of a full-sister (Lot 290) to millionaire and G2 Charity Mile runner up Saratoga Dancer. This well bred filly’s dam is a half-sister to Eastern Cape star Juan Pablo and the dam of G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains.

Ideal World, like Mambo In Seattle a son of the great sire Kingmambo, has a colt (Lot 355) whose dam is an own sister to a Dubai stakes winner and half-sister to Triple Crown winner Abashiri, while the colt (Lot 450) by red-hot young sire, and Equus Champion Soft Falling Rain, is out of a half-sister to Equus Champion Smart Call. This colt’s second dam is a half-sister to none other than Equus Champion and successful sire Greys Inn.

THE SLADES OFFER THREE AT 2018 NATIONAL SALE

John and Liz Slade will be offering three yearlings at the2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, which is set to take place at the TBA Complex in Germiston from April 24th to April 26th.

This trio will be the first that John has raised naturally in the Karoo, and he is very pleased with all three.

The Slades’ trio includes colts by Querari and Vercingetorix, as well as a filly by the hugely promising Master Of My Fate.

First into the ring is Special Blend (Lot 196), a bay son of Silvano sired champion, and G1 Jebel Hatta winner, Vercingetorix. The colt, bred on a similar cross to G1 winners Marinaresco and Nightingale, is a half-brother to nine winners, including G1 sprinter Mocha Java and to G2 Camellia Stakes winner Mochachino. The latter shares her champion sire Silvano with Vercingetorix himself. This colt’s dam is a sister in blood to July winner Hunting Tower.

John says of the Vercingetorix colt, ““He is named Special Blend to keep in with the coffee theme and also because Vercingetorix is by Silvano out of A National Assembly mare and Mabola Plums two best runners were by those two sires. Vercingetorix also adds some size and class. A really good colt.”

Boom sire Querari, whose notable runners this season include the graded winners Monks Hood, Wonderwall and Pinnacle Peak, is the sire of Liberty Hall (Lot 465). This colt is out of a Fort Wood half-sister to five stakes winners, notably G2 Gold Bowl hero Herod The Great and dual Matchem Stakes winner Sevillano. Another half-sister to his dam is the dam of this season’s Listed Michael Roberts Handicap winner Wild Wicket.

Liberty Hall hails from the same female line as US champion and successful stallion Lord Avie as well as fellow US G1 winners Artemis Agrotera and Stephen Got Even.

Understandably, John is very keen on the Querari son, saying, “He is the best of my draft. He is beautiful and moves better than the proverbial cat -more like a snake he is so fluid in his movements!”

The regally bred Master Of My Fate, one of South Africa’s hottest sires, is the sire of Capriccio (Lot 492). This filly, a half-sister to 2 winners including feature race contender Kazaar, is out of a half-sister to four stakes horses, headed by top class fillies Mocha Java and Mochachino.

John says of the filly, “She is very correct and smart, and her dam is a half- sister to MochaJava and Mochachino.”

RATHMOR STUD’S TOP CLASS NATIONAL DRAFT

Rathmor Stud, home of promising young stallion Noble Tune, will be represented by a top class draft at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale next week.

Rathmor’s draft includes lots by such top class sires as Captain Al, Flower Alley, Ideal World, Oratorio, Visionaire and Silvano, as well as the very promising Vercingetorix.

The farm will also be offering six yearlings by the hot young stallion Noble Tune, currently one of the leading first crops in South Africa.

Perhaps the standout lot in the Rathmor draft is The Vow (Lot 214). This bay daughter of Oratorio is a half-sister to Equus Champion and G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Lady In Black, who recently won the G3 Umzikhulu Stakes and who ranks as a leading contender for the upcoming G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas.

Triple G1 winner Oratorio, recently represented by his 50th stakes winner, is also responsible for Belshazzar (Lot 252). The latter is a half-brother to five winners, including the smart, stakes winner Royal Trip.

Champion sire, and eight times champion sire of 2yos, Captain Al is the sire of Mississippi Burning (Lot 43) –a filly out of the stakes placed Hussonet mare Spitfire Lady. The latter is a half-sister to the high-class Australian stake winners Sabrage and Pinnacles.

Another champion sire represented in this draft is reigning champion Silvano. He is the sire of In Auro (Lot 68), a colt whose dam is a half-sister to four stakes horses, notably G2 Zabeel Mile/Gauteng Guineas winner Imbongi and this is the same family as G1 winners William Longsword and Real Princess.

Unbridled’s Song son Noble Tune, a half-brother to US champion Honor Code, has a smart draft here. Noble Tune yearlings in the Rathmor draft include a colt out of G3 winner Time And Tide (Lot 300), a filly out of a Var half-sister to Met/July runner Mambo Mime (Lot 313), a colt out of Fusaichi Peguasus sired G2 The Debutante second Big On Broadway (Lot 359), and a half-brother to the smart G3 performer Magic (Lot 499). The latter is offered on behalf of Dr Bechard.

G1 winner and G1 sire Visionaire has a full-brother (Lot 373) to 2 smart winners on sale, whose dam is a sister in blood to Mercury Sprint winner Fly By Night.

Proven sire of champions, Ideal World has a half-sister (Lot 8) to G2 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Harry Lime on offer, while the Ideal World colt Oriental World (Lot 510) hails from the same family as UAE Derby hero Victory Moon, and G1 winners Imperious Sue, Imperious Star, William Longsword and Real Princess.

Rathmor also offer Floribunda (Lot 367)- a Flower Alley filly whose four time winning dam is a half-sister to G1 Gold Challenge winner National Spirit. Another from this family is Vitalstatistix (Lot 484), a filly from the first crop of Equus Champion and Jebel Hatta winner Vercingetorix.

I'll be there for the 3 days, I assist BSA as a bidspotter, will be great to take a bid or 3 from yourself or meet in the pub on Tuesday evening, we'll probably end up at Moutonshoek thereafter.
